The "Fondazione Robert Hollman" was established
in 1979.
The current program since 1988 involves early
therapeutic intervention with regard to new born to fouryear-old
blind or severely visually impaired children who
may or may not have additional handicaps.
All the children served have severe visual impairment or
are blind.

Their conditions are caused by:
- subatrophy or atrophy of the optic nerve - 31.6%
- ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) - 28.7%
- congenital malformations - 16.9%
- cataract - 11%
- toxoplasmosis - 3.7%
- anophthalmia - 3.7%
- various other pathologies - 3.7%
- congenital glaucoma - 0.7%.
In addition, 50.73% of the children present other
handicaps such as motor/psychomotor deficiencies,
cognitive retardation, or problems concerning social
and emotional relationship which are not simply a
consequence of the visual handicap.
Of the children we serve, 49.27% do not have other
problems apart from their visual impairment or certain
