IV. Principles for a formative curriculum <strong>of</strong> the<br />

music therapist<br />

We Propose some general principles, inherent to the<br />

formative curriculum <strong>of</strong> the MTA, developed having<br />

considered in depth the decade <strong>of</strong> experience <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Four-Years <strong>Music</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong> Course held at the<br />

"Permanent Education Centre", music section, <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Pro Civitate Christiana <strong>of</strong> Assisi.<br />

The formative curriculum makes provision for:<br />

3. Methodology aspects<br />

The Pin-Pointing <strong>of</strong> evaluation criteria for the<br />

candidates for the admission to the course <strong>of</strong> music<br />

therapy must bear the following in mind:<br />

- level <strong>of</strong> musical competence<br />

- Psycho-physical equilibrium <strong>of</strong> the candidate<br />

- an aptitude to carry out work <strong>of</strong> a therapeutic nature.<br />

It is necessary to bear in mind that the evaluation <strong>of</strong><br />

musical competence involves a double inconvenience:<br />

a) it excludes persons, who even though not adequately<br />

musically cultured, have an instinctive capability to<br />

utilize the language <strong>of</strong> sound-music;<br />

b) it admits candidates who even though greatly<br />

talented in sound-musical competence, are not suited<br />

to communicating with said language in a therapeutic<br />

relationship context.
