These two pieces <strong>of</strong> music is from the beginning and the<br />

end <strong>of</strong> an 18 minutes long improvisation with the title "I<br />

try to play my own birth in a smooth way". This student<br />

formulated as a main topic for the self experience work<br />

to focus on a nonbalanced use <strong>of</strong> energy: the student<br />

felt either too paralysed for action or too active. Here like<br />

in most individual and group work we take turns in<br />

playing music together and reflect verbally on the music<br />

in between. After having explored the topic with different<br />

methods we one day decided to go back and work with<br />

the student's birth as the theme. The student was told<br />

by the mother that the birth had lasted for a very long<br />

time, and then suddenly the child came out like in an<br />

explosion. This life rhytm seemed somehow to follow<br />

the student also as an adult.<br />

In the music I play the part <strong>of</strong> a birth helper, but at the<br />

end I do press the student through my drum playing and<br />

keep the student in high energy untill the climax.<br />

The student plays piano (including the strings inside the<br />

piano). - After the improvsation the student lay down on<br />

the floor and said nothing. I placed myself nearby and<br />

was just present. After a couple <strong>of</strong> minutes the student<br />

told that it was the first time this student had had such a<br />

kind <strong>of</strong> body feeling. This kind <strong>of</strong> body feeling became a<br />

guideline next time the student felt unbalanced - it was a<br />

tool for focusing the search for more balanced energy.<br />
