1. Why this patient ?<br />

A music therapists ' motives for working with a<br />

particular patient.<br />

2. Maintaining pr<strong>of</strong>essional separation from tne<br />

patient and balancing it with the empathy required, not<br />

allowing yourself as a therapist to become too involved<br />

and consecuently to lose direction.<br />

I will now discuss some details <strong>of</strong> Kate's process<br />

tnrough the music therapy process as it relates to these<br />

themes.<br />

THE MUSIC THERAPY PROCESS WITH KATE<br />

PRESENTATION: Kate is contined to a water chair<br />

during her out <strong>of</strong> bed hours. This style <strong>of</strong> chair is rather<br />

like a large armchair which provides the support she<br />

requires for sitting up. She has movement <strong>of</strong> arms and
