We may say that sound and music have specific
biological effects on human beings:
-- an increase or decresse, through rhythm, of
muscular energy (example: Roman slave ships),
-- effects on the pulse, blood pressure, and
endocrine glands,

-- a decrease or slowing down of the onset of fatigue
(increase in muscle endurance) of functional music

-- changes in the pathways of electrical energy in the
organism,
-- changes in metabolism and in the biosynthesis of
the various enzymatic processes.
Since 1987 we have studied the use of music during
procedures preparing patients for general anesthesia,
and done preliminary research on a new technique
used with young children in the children's surgery unit of
the teaching hospital in Rennes (Alain, je ne me
souviens pas bien du sens exact de "CHR": Centre
