examination of research topics and questions which are
indigenous to the paradigm and revelant to the field,
and methodological adaptations necessary in clinical
settings. Research topics will be identified based on a
distinction between those pertaining to the discipline
(assessment, treatment and evaluation within the clientmusic-therapist
relationship) and those pertaining to the
profession (how therapists interact and organize
themselves). When researching these topics within a
qualitative framework, three phenomena are proposed
to be of primary interest:
1. the in-vivo process of client-music-therapist
interactions
2. the experience of client(s) and/or therapist, and
3. the musical products that result from the in-vivo
process and experiences therein.

These phenomena may be examined at several
different levels, including: holistic description, analysis,
differentiation, conservation, reconstruction, and
corroboration. Methodological issues inherent in doing
qualititative research in a clinical setting will be
examined, and adaptations will be proposed.
