A feature of our Center is that the children's periods of
residence are not rigidly organized. The following
details are therefore purely indicative and may be
modified at any time to suit the needs of individual
children and their families.
The first stay at the "Fondazione Robert Hollman"
lasts four weeks, followed after about a six-month
interval by further stays of two weeks, according to
individual needs.
The cost of the mother's and child's stay at the
"Fondazione", including all treatment, is borne by the
"Fondazione", and is completely free of charge to the
family.
The activities are devised as follow:
- Visual Stimulation (Low Vision Training), in
order to maintain and develop the use of residual vision.
- Physiotherapy, which helps to prevent and
modify the effects of retarded mobility due to the visual
108
handicap and/or other problems.
- Music therapy based on the analysis of the
man-sound relationship and on body resonance. The
child, lying or sitting on the grand piano, plays with the
therapist and an improvised sound dialogue develops
between him and the child.
- Orofacial therapy indispensable in the
treatment of disorders of sucking, chewing, swallowing
and language in children with sensorimotor problems in
the face, in the month and throat areas.
- Psychomotor therapy, helpful in attaining full
consciousness of one's body, in relation with the
environment.
- Hydrotherapy, as a means of getting to know the
element "water" and to stimulate psychomotor abilities.
- Play therapy, aimed at the child's global
development through multisensorial stimulation.
