student to attend seminars, conferences and courses
abroad. Juliette Alvin, Rolando Benenzon, Maria Fux,
Sue Jennings were some of the specialists who came in
the 70’s, stimulated knowledge and awareness of the
need of a formal therapeutic training.
APEM, the Portuguese Association of Music Education
which represents ISME en Portugal soon recognise the
high value of the discipline including it in its annual
programs (1974).
Introductory seminars and workshops with well-known
therapists and teachers Moresno, Claus Bang, V.
Hemsy de Gainza, A. Fenwick, A. Warwick, H. Moog, R.
Benenzon, E. Lecourt and J. Verdeau-Paillès were
organised in the following years and attend by hundreds
of individuals, eager to acquire skills in expressive

sound therapist, thus receiving consequent influences
of American, Argentinian, English and French currents
of music therapy.
APEM became a gathering point and information
source for professionals and students interested in the
subject. A quarterly Bullein delivered to 900 membres,
includes regularly music therapy articles and world wide
information, exchanged with several M. T. associations’
bulletins. The Document Center contain up-to-date
specialised books, magazicens and a bibliography and
offers councelling for those who intend to conduct
research for their degree requirements or for pursuing
postgraduate studies.
