Referrals for child sexual abuse have increased

dramatically in the UK, Europe and the USA. As referrals
increase in number, we find more music therapists
being involved in assessing children deemed to be at
risk.
This paper tries to understand the meaning of abuse
and its effects on a child. It examines the diagnostic
potential of music therapy using extracts from case
material and highlights a number of issues which arise
in work with this client group.
Many of the issues discussed are pertinent to a range of
client groups such as those with eating disorders or
substance abuse.
