Resumen
En esta comunicación se analizan las estrategias seguidas por las radios libres en España
desde su origen hasta la actualidad centrándose en Radio Pica (Barcelona, 1981), Hala-Bedi
Irratia (Vitoria, 1983) y Radio Piratona (Vigo, 1988). Unas emisoras que representan proyec-
tos independientes que han sido capaces de aglutinar en torno a ellas a movimientos sociales
y erigirse como referentes en sus zonas de cobertura. A pesar de la precariedad económica y
los cierres administrativos han logrado permanecer en el dial sin publicidad ni subvenciones
públicas y adaptarse a los cambios sociales y tecnológicos para dar respuesta a la sociedad.

Abstract
In this paper we analyze the strategies followed by the free radio stations in Spain from its
origins to the present day focusing on Radio Pica (Barcelona, 1981), Hala-Bedi Irratia (Vito-
ria, 1983) y Radio Piratona (Vigo, 1988). These stations represent independent projects that
have been able to unite around them different social movements and have become a bench-
mark in their coverage areas. Despite the precarious economic and administrative closures,
they have manager to stay on the dial without advertising or public subsidies and adapt to
social and tecnological changes in response to society.
