Hoofstuk 3: Die verhaal oor apartheid – verlede tyd
p130
Mnr X vertel my, as hy ʼn wit man sien rondry in ʼn
A + B = C, die hond is beter, is meer werd as hy as
swartmens. Vir ons klink dit miskien belaglik, dit
was hulle belewenis gewees daarvan [Albert 6-295]. Farisani
(1990:60) vertel dieselfde storie van ʼn bakkie, ʼn man en ’n hond. En ons
hoor dit weer by Naicker (1994:97): “I once met a woman who told me
that her dream was to be treated like a dog owned by a white person
because such dogs get food, comfortable shelter, health care and have
an anti-cruelty organisation to step in when things go wrong. When the
dog finally dies it is buried with dignity. If the owner dies then the dog
inherits the owners (sic) wealth.”
Most white people grew up with a mental picture of black people
resembling something along the following lines: Black people break
everything they touch… they destroy everything… they understand
nothing… they lie… they steal… they are corrupt… they are always
late… they will rather toyi-toyi in the sun than work… they can’t drive
properly… they are extremely lazy.
of aspirasies is selde, indien ooit, gedink.
Qwelane (1998:22) skryf “whites' belief in their own racial superiority
grew... they never stopped to think about Samson and Betty – and black
people as a whole – as ordinary human beings with the same needs,
desires and aspirations as white people.”
deur apartheid: “Our families have been forcefully separated. We
women are forced to live apart from our husbands. We were even
