Hanlie: But don't you think politics is playing such a strong part, I'm sorry if I sound
negative, but I don't see it happening politically. I can see it on humanitarian grounds
that churches and people get together, but I cannot see that everybody who's a
Christian, for instance deciding we will vote for the ACDP and we will all then be once
voice.
Steve: No, one voice this way, if government say, we wants to pass a bill that affects
our conscience as Christians, such as abortion, the Lord say be fruitful and multiply, He
never said go and do abortion, my child come to me today and say I want to make an
abortion because it is my human right. But this is the point, where are we as
Christians? The move of some to take it to court, was just to save the face of
Christianity, but if we stood up to government and say, remember we voted you in as
Christians, because 78% of this country is Christians. Now government cannot listen to
so many Christians?
Hanlie: There are too many issues that people are worried about, they are worried
about just still being alive, just surviving, that it wouldn't hurt the government if a very
big group, say if you carry on with that kind of thing, we wouldn't go on paying taxes.
Quincy: I just want to follow up on your comment, who are actually the voters? The
majority people of voters in this country are Christians.
Hanlie: I don't know. They will say they are Christians, but are they? The fact that they
belong to a Christian church, I don't know whether that really mean that they are
Christians.
Quincy: If you approach it from that point of view, it is a different story, but what is their
job preaching to us every Sunday?
Hanlie: I'm not talking about the leaders, I'm talking about the average person, if you
make the statement that 70 – 80% of voters in SA are Christians, and I'm saying I don't
think so. I think they are Christians in name, that they belong to a certain church. I think
if you take any group of people, in your business, in school and you just take 20 people
out, you will find that there are people for example doing the things we are not suppose
to do, which does not mean they don't believe in Christ, but to whom abortion is not an
issue.
