(España).RESUMENSe presentan los diagnósticos de procesos de sintomatología nerviosa realizados en el Servicio de AnatomíaPatológica de la Facultad de Veterinaria de León entre 1994 y 1998. De 787 ovinos estudiados, 254 presentanenfermedades nerviosas. Se diagnosticó Listeriosis en 92 animales, Cenurosis en 34, NCC en 23, Enterotoxemiaen 22, Visna en 8, Scrapie en 5, Aujezsky en 5 y Cetosis en 7.Otros como meningitis purulenta, traumatismos, tumores, abscesos, etc., se observaron en menor número. Nose pedo establecer un diagnóstico en 26 animales.Palabras clave: neuropatología, listeriosis, cenurosis, necrosis cerebro cortical, Aujezsky.INTRODUCCIÓNLas enfermedades que afectan al sistema nerviosoconstituyen sin duda un capítulo importante en laespecie ovina, siendo una de las causas de mortalidado desecho en animales de todas las edades. Eneste sentido, García de Jalón et al. (1981) señalanuna incidencia de estos procesos superior al 40% enovejas de la Cuenca del Ebro. En este trabajotenemos como principal objetivo el dar a conocer laincidencia de procesos nerviosos en ovinos enviadosal Servicio de Diagnóstico de Anatomía Patológicade la Facultad de Veterinaria de León, así como lametodología y algunos aspectos lesionales que seemplean para su diagnóstico.MATERIAL Y MÉTODOSEl periodo estudiado comprende octubre de 1994a junio de 1998. En total se estudiaron 787 animales,de los cuales 254 (32,3%) presentaban sintomatologíanerviosa exclusivamente o predominantemente.Las muestras recibidas consistieron mayoritariamenteen el animal entero para la realizaciónde la necropsia completa o, en ocasiones, la cabezade los mismos. Estos 254 ovinos se dividieron entres grupos atendiendo a su edad: menores de 3meses (n=26), 3 meses a 1 año (n= 69) y mayoresde 1,5 años (n= 159). Ver tabla 1.En todos los casos se procesó el encéfalo ymédula espinal cervical de forma sistemática paraestudios histopatológicos, tomando 14 muestras de7 niveles diferentes. Asimismo, cuando la sintomatologíaasí lo indicaba, se procedía al procesado detoda la médula espinal. Las técnicas histológicasempleadas fueron las habituales: fijación en formol,inclusión en parafina, sección de las muestras y tinciónde hematoxilina y eosina. Cuando así se estimóoportuno, se realizaron tinciones específicas comotricrómicos, Gram para tejidos, PAS, Ziehl-Neelsen,ácido rubeánico (método para cobre) y mielina. Asimismo,también se llevaban a cabo métodos inmunohistoquímicospara la detección específica deagentes infecciosos como virus Aujezsky, Listeria
