568CRUZ, V. et al.Grupo 4) hembras no sincronizadas y sin tratamientocon Se y/o vitamina EA los animales de los grupos 1 y 2 se les colocande esponjas de cronolona 40 mg (Chrono-gest,Intervet, España). Catorce días más tarde se retiranlas esponjas y se les administran 440 UI de PMSG(Foligon, Intervet, España) y dos días más tarde seponen en contacto con los machos y se les separafísicamente del resto de los animales del rebaño,para evitar celos por simpatía. Los animales de losgrupos 3 y 4 se ponen en contacto con los machosen la misma fecha.Por lo que respecta a los tratados (grupos 1 y 3)se les administra por vía subcutánea seleniato debario (Zoselen, Laboratorios Esteve, España), a ladosis de 1 mg de Se/K.p.v., el mismo día que se lescolocan las esponjas.Seguidamente, en todos los grupos se efectúanlos correspondientes controles de cubriciones, gestaciones,partos y seguimiento de los corderosnacidos de cada uno.Paralelamente y, para comprobar la incorporacióndel selenio a los animales tratados se obtienen muestrasde sangre en 4 ocasiones: previamente a lainserción de las esponjas y la inyección de selenio,15 días tras la cubrición, durante el último tercio dela gestación y 15 días después del parto.Estas muestras, con heparina de litio como anticoagulantese han conservado a temperatura de refrigeración24 horas, hasta el momento de su procesado.En los análisis se determina la concentraciónde hemoglobina y la actividad de GSHPx, mediantelos métodos de Van Kampen Ziljstra (1961) y dePaglia y Valentine (1967) respectivamente. En ladeterminación del enzima se ha empleado el kitRansel (Laboratorios Randox, Reino Unido). El análisisestadístico de la evolución temporal y entre losgrupos de la actividad de GSHPx se ha efectuadomediante un análisis de varianza.RESULTADOS Y DISCUSIÓNLas actividades medias de GSHPx de todos losgrupos, expresadas en UI/g Hb, a lo largo de las 4extracciones, aparecen en la figura 1. El análisisestadístico determina que no existen diferencias significativasentre los 4 grupos en las 2 primerasextracciones, en las que, en todos los animales, seregistran unos valores que pueden considerarsecomo marginales. Sin embargo, a partir de la de terceraextracción se detecta un fuerte incremento enlos lotes tratados (A y C), que persiste hasta el finaldel experimento, alcanzando estos grupos valoresque pueden considerarse como adecuados. Estopuede explicarse por los efectos positivos que ejerceesta sal de Se de liberación lenta sobre los nivelesdel enzima (Andrés et al., 1997).En las figuras 2, 3, 4, 5 y 6 se muestran gráficamenteel número de ovejas paridas, corderosnacidos, partos múltiples, partos sencillos e índicesde prolificidad, respectivamente, de los 4 grupos.Si comparamos los datos obtenidos, el efecto deltratamiento con selenio fue beneficioso en los animalesen los que la reproducción se ha llevado acabo sin sincronización (grupos 3 y 4), con mayornúmero de ovejas paridas y corderos nacidos,aunque no una mejor prolificidad. Estos resultadoscoinciden con los de Van Ryssen et al., (1992)quienes detectaron un mayor número de corderosnacidos en grupos de ovejas suplementadas con Sey con los de Mihailovic et al., (1993) en ganadocaprino.Por el contrario, en las ovejas sincronizadas(grupos 1 y 2) los resultados no han sido mejores enel grupo tratado con seleniato de bario, lo que apuntaa que, muy probablemente, el efecto positivo del tratamientocon Se detectado en los ovinos no sincronizadosse relacione más con la cubrición que conla gestación, o que el efecto del tratamiento hormonalsea muy superior a la sola elevación de los nivelesde Se proporcionada por el seleniato de bario.REFERENCIAS BIBLIOGRÁFICASANDRES, S.; MAÑE, M.C.; SANCHEZ, J.;BARRERA,R.: ZARAGOZA,C., JIMENEZ,A.,1997.
