Facultad de Veterinaria, Universidad Complutense,28040 Madrid, (España).3 Asesor Veterinario, 45.600 Talavera de la Reina, Toledo (España).RESUMENEn este trabajo se describe el diagnóstico de un brote de mastitis aspergilar en ganado ovino lechero ligadoa un tratamiento antibiótico al secado realizado vía intracisternal. De un lote de 96 ovejas de raza Assaf, 16desarrollaron una mastitis clínica en la semana siguiente al parto, de tipo unilateral en la mayoría de los casos.Se manifestó con una hipertrofia e induración de la mama y nódulos linfáticos mamarios, alteración de laleche de tipo acuoso, anorexia y un deterioro progresivo del estado general. Once de los animales murieronentre los 15 y 20 días postparto. Los hallazgos anatomopatológicos mostraron una inflamación granulomatosadel tejido mamario con presencia de hifas en parénquima y nódulos linfáticos mamarios, confirmada pormicroscopía electrónica. Se apreciaron en todos los casos infartos renales, retención placentaria y metritis.Por otra parte, el análisis de los parámetros renales de los animales afectados confirmó un fracaso renal. Elaislamiento de Aspergillus fumigatus a partir de leche de animales con lesiones específicas de mastitis supusola confirmación del diagnóstico clínico. En conclusión, se aborda uno de los cuadros de mastitis clínicas másinfrecuentes en el ganado ovino pero que causa gran impacto en las explotaciones a las que afecta.Palabras clave: Aspergillus fumigatus, mastitis, ovino.INTRODUCCIÓNLos agentes normalmente implicados en las mastitisclínicas de los pequeños rumiantes, a excepciónde las ligadas a la agalaxia contagiosa, son distintasespecies de los géneros Staphylococcus (Staphylococcusaureus fundamentalmente) y Streptococcus,Pasteurella haemolytica, Pseudomonas aeruginosay, en mucho menor grado que en ganado vacuno,algunos coliformes (Falade et al, 1998; Lafi et al,1998; Rao et al, 1996; Watson et al, 1990). Si bienlas publicaciones que hacen referencia a este tipode agentes son numerosas, la información referentea las mastitis fúngicas es mucho más limitada (Bertheloty Bergonier, 1993; Jensen et al., 1996). Lamayoría de los trabajos al respecto relacionan la apariciónde estos casos con tratamientos antibióticosal secado realizados vía intracisternal de forma incorrecta(Berthelot y Bergonier, 1993; Jensen et al.,1996) y con unas condiciones ambientales que favorecenla colonización de la mama por Aspergillusfumigatus (Berthelot y Bergonier, 1993), agenteubicuo en el ambiente de las explotaciones. En elpresente trabajo describimos los hallazgos del diagnósticoclínico, anatomopatológico y laboratorial deun brote de mastitis aspergilar en un lote de 96ovejas de raza Assaf.MATERIAL Y MÉTODOSAnimales: 16 ovejas de raza Assaf pertenecientesa un lote de 96 animales presentaron signos de mastitisclínica al inicio de su segunda lactación.
