vieil irlandais par la particule -ch (< *-k w e, comme le lat. -que), ainsi na-ch,
(comme lat. ne-que). Lorsqu’il y a un pronom infixé, ainsi nachim < *ne k w e me
(de structure enclitique identique au lat. dant-que eum, au gr. ho-u-to-j (oátoj oátoj oátoj), oátoj
et au hitt. nu-war-aš et -ya-mu), l’ordre des deux particules est fixe : -ch précède
le pronom objet. Aussi peut-il conclure 50 : "The position of the enclitic element
is constant : E occupies the second position in the sentence, whether preceded by
V or by P. Where more than one E is present (no more than two are
reconstructible in Irish), these occur in a fixed order, but the complex (E1 E2 ...)
itself always occupies the second position in the sentence ... Where no P is
present, V occupies the initial position, shows the absolute endings, and may be
followed by E ; where one or more P is present, P1 occupies the initial position,
followed by E, if E is present, followed by P2 ... if further P’s are present,
followed by V, which shows the conjunct endings" ; la structure initiale de la
phrase peut être alors ainsi schématisée :

# préverbe1 - enclitique1 - (enclitique2) - (préverbe2) - verbe ... #.
Certaines particules peuvent être initiales de chaînes, comme les préverbes dits
"vides" no, to, se (en fait, "fossilized connectives", comparables aux connecteurs
hitt. nu, ta, šu), et être suivies d’enclitiques : une particule, ainsi sech, noch,
toch (comparable mutatis mutandis au got. nauh < *nu k w e, ÏÏÏÏauh < *tu k w e) ; ou
un pronom :
na n-oirg "he slays him" (comme hitt. n-an hÕarkzi "(and) he smites him") ;
no-m Choimmdiu-coíma "the Lord cherisches me" (comme hitt. nu-mu ...
hÕarta), d’où la formule :
