School performance feedback systems (SPFS) are an important step in a loop that makes external<br />

examinations meaningful – they provide information to the students, teachers, schools,<br />

educational experts and the interested public. The author will present current developments<br />

on the different SPFS in primary and secondary schools in Slovenia and steps towards the value<br />

added system. Since 1995 knowledge at the end of upper secondary schools in general educational<br />

track is externally assessed with (general) Matura that serves as certificate of secondary<br />

education and as prerequisite for admission to the university. In 2002 similar vocational type of<br />

Matura was introduced to other upper secondary schools. In primary/lower secondary schools<br />

there are examinations at the age of 11 and 14. Since all examinations cover whole generations<br />

and all data is organized centrally, there are great challenges and responsibility to provide detailed<br />

and sophisticated feedback.<br />

After introduction author will demonstrate two main SPFS‘s developed. First is Assessment of/<br />

for learning Analytic Tool (ALAT), a software that is used by secondary schools to create indepth<br />

analysis of their own data and compare that with national data. Second SPFS is a pack<br />

of prepared analysis, given to our primary/lower secondary schools after examinations to help<br />

them create content relevant descriptions of the results of the examinations. In last years effort<br />

is being made to merge this data into a value added system in a way to help schools and teachers<br />

to use the data optimally.<br />
