client’s difficulty, as well as the direction toward its resolution, is expressed imaginally in the sand.
A well-trained Sandplay therapist can read this imaginal language and facilitate the client’s
journey toward healing. Case material from the United States and Japan will be included in this
presentation.

In 1997, Professor Risheng Zhang introduced Sandplay Therapy to Beijing Normal University.
Subsequently, research on this topic was also begun in other universities, such as Hebei University.
The Sandplay method was gradually acknowledged and applied in China from the time of
Professor Risheng Zhang’s introduction. Yet, it is still in a preliminary stage. Currently, the most
important problem is to integrate Sandplay with other models of psychological health and
psychotherapy, and to find the model that is attuned to China’s situation.
1055.4 Psychotherapeutic training using sandplay therapy, Y. Okada, Kyoto University, Kyoto,

One method of training psychotherapists called Narrative Sandplay through the use of sandplay as
a means to amplify images was introduced. There are two steps in this training. Firstly, a
psychotherapist creates a sandpicture and makes a story about their scene. Secondly, other
psychotherapists create stories about the first therapist’s sandplay, thinking of the tray as a scene
from the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). Stories are also made. We show slides of each picture
and explain the use of the various figures. Small groups are formed and discussed the stories.
Hearing stories helps further the understanding of all the group members.

1056.1 The relationship between mobility and sexual risk behaviors among young migrants in

The current study was designed to examine the relationship between mobility and sexual risk
behavior among young migrants in Beijing. About 2000 rural-to-urban migrants recruited using
“quota-sampling” of occupational group in Beijing were administered an anonymous
questionnaire, including history and pattern of migration (e.g., years of migration, numbers of
cities migrants have stayed, length of stay in Beijing etc.) and sexual risk behaviors (e.g., multiple
sexual partner, unprotected sexual behavior etc.).
