Narrative approaches to therapy provide a model for talking with people about problems they may
be experiencing in their lives through storytelling. Narrative therapists focus on people’s personal
stories as well as the broader cultural narratives that shape these stories, helping them to
deconstruct and re-author their stories in empowering ways. This approach to therapy is
particularly appropriate in the Pacific Islands of Micronesia where oral traditions and talking story
are a part of everyday life. This paper discusses the integration of oral traditions and narrative
ideas in the development of a culturally informed model for psychological practice in Micronesia.

120 questionnaires were given to the psychotherapists in China. Those psychotherapists have been
trained in different continuous training programs on family therapy. The investigation found that
most of the therapists use family therapy as an assistant method in the clinical practice though they
consider it as a useful tool for some kind of problems. Most of the people and some directors of
hospitals do not accept this new kind of therapy. Lack of advanced training and supervision are the
two main factors affecting the applying of family therapy in China. The way to promote family
therapy in China is discussed.

5050.1 Analysis of discursive accounts of subjects in psychotherapy: Comparison of therapeutic

The aim of the research is to describe the discursive repertories of subject in psychotherapeutic
treatment, classified according to the therapist theoretical orientation of reference (psychodynamic,
cognitive-behavioral, systemic-relational and gestaltic orientation). Two questionnaire have been
used, one after one year of distance, submitted to 51 subjects. The results showed difference that
are not related to the theoretical orientation of reference: on the contrary, transversal and "common
sense" narrative modalities were identified.
