Methods: SCL-90, 16Pf and SLES were used to investigate 2570 undergraduates. Results: 21.69%
undergraduates had positive symptoms. Mean score of symptoms were 39.92. Differences with
grade, sex and majors were found. Some significant dimensions related with mental symptoms
were 4 personal factors (L, O, I, O4) and some life events mainly including interpersonal and
learning problems. Conclusion: Undergraduates’ mean score of each symptom factor was higher
than that of other youth groups. Male students had more mental problems than female students.
Grade one students had more symptoms.

In researches of burnout sydrome, which appears in emotionally loading careers the preventive
approach became spread. Our research also follows this direction. We analysed burnout (MBI,
Byrne, 1991), psychological immune system (PISI, Oláh, 1996), coping strategy preferences (Oláh,
1983), and temperament (TCI, Cloninger, 1998, Rózsa 2004) on a sample of 750 students. Factors
of TCI which proved to be determined biologically are showing close relation to several other
factors which are considered unsteady nowadays. Therefore the factors which could be changed is
reducing and the effectiveness of prevention could be strengthened.
