The students evaluate highly the managers’ success and they relate it to the feeling of satisfaction
arising from providing for the family and offering children a wide range of development
opportunities. The costs attributed to the managers` activities by students are higher than those
declared by the managers. The thesis that satisfaction from success affects and alleviates the costs
experience as well as raises the frustration threshold is hereby confirmed. One of essential factors
in “anti-cost” prevention is shaping and developing managing competence. It may be assumed that
manager who is well prepared to fulfill his role shall incur substantially lower costs than a
manager whose scope of knowledge, practical social skills and abilities is deficient.
5138.148 Effects of memory load and signal probability on performance in cognitive vigilance

The present study investigated the effects of memory load and signal probability on performance
in cognitive vigilance tasks. Six tasks differing in memory load and signal probability were
compared on the basis of measurements of hit rate and reaction times for hits. The date showed
that both vigilance level and vigilance decrement were affected by memory load significantly, and
there was an interaction between memory load and signal probability. In the task with high
memory, the increase in signal probability produced a obvious decrease in vigilance level, and it
also had a significant effect on vigilance decrement.
5138.149 The effect of the number of signal sources on the reaction time for signal detection in a

A simulation experiment was designed to examine the relationship between the number of signal
sources and the reaction time for signal detection in a visual monitoring task. 2-8 instruments were
used as signal sources and these instruments were presented simultaneously on a CRT-screen. The
monitoring task lasted for 80 minutes in each experimental condition, and each experiment was
divided into 4 blocks. The results showed that the reaction time for signal detection was
significantly affected by the number of signal sources, and there was an interaction between the
number of signal sources and the duration of monitoring task.
5138.150 The effect of target size on color coding on a LCD under higher ambient illumination,

The relationship between the range of selected colors for color coding and the target size was
investigated on a LCD under higher ambient illumination with 5100K color temperature. The
results showed that the increase in target size served to improve the performance of color
discrimination on an absolute basis. 7 colors could be used for color coding on a LCD when the
target size was above the level of 4 acute; 4mm2 and viewing distance was kept at 70cm, however,
no more than 4 colors should be used for this purpose when the target size ranged from 1´
1mm2 to 2 acute; 2mm2.
