4083.31 Measuring narcissistic traits with the narcissistic personality disorder scale of the Millon
Clinical Multiaxial Inventory - III, Gina Rossi, Hedwig Sloore, VUB, Belgium
The accuracy of the MCMI-III narcissistic personality disorder scale was validated in a sample of
524 patients (19% had narcissistic traits). Receiver operating characteristic analyses showed that a
randomly selected person with narcissistic traits scored higher on the narcissistic personality
disorder scale than a randomly selected person without narcissistic traits in 67% of the cases.
Sensitivity of the scale was good (75%), but the specificity was poor (51%). The MCMI-III
proofed to be a good screening instrument for narcissistic traits, but to make diagnostic decisions
the test should be part of a multimethod approach that allows aggregation over measures.
4083.32 Study of conflict resolution using Thematic Apperception Test, Andrey Ryzhov,

The ability to use fantasy in working through of conflicts is studied with Thematic Apperception
Test. TAT story is regarded as a mean of relinquishing conflict by presenting it in a system of
oppositions and mediators. We propose to compile “prototales”, models of conflict resolution,
using the stories of different subjects, containing similar plot. The individual stories are scored in
comparison with prototales on basis of depth and fullness of elaboration, complexness of structure
of conflict resolution, etc. The disturbances in schizophrenics are demonstrated, showing defects
of integrative functioning or impact of primitive fantasies and defenses on synthetic function.

Time-related distress profiles of 467 parents of paediatric diabetes and childhood cancer patients
were established. For most symptoms, early negative impact of illness was greater in cancer than
in diabetes. This difference was reduced with time, and for 7 of 11 symptoms equal or higher
distress was found in diabetes parents most distant from diagnosis. Increase over time in
disease-related fear and anxiety was indicated in diabetes. Care attention has to be directed
according to how distress evolves. Psychological support immediately after diagnosis is crucial in
cancer, while in diabetes, parent care should pay attention to increasing distress with time.

the best theory should integrate different theories, and develop a better theoretical model and some
effective techniques. In different factions there are many different techniques, Even the common
techniques are used differently. So it will be easy for us to master those important techniques if we
integrate the common techniques among different theories to achieve a better model. Following
this idea, this article has compared different theories and tried to achieve the best orientation of
those techniques in common use.
