the department. The significant aspect of these publication is the division of these books in three
different levels. Under the children literature project these three levels are according to the
psychological needs of a child. These books are published for primary, secondary and matric
level students. Most of the books are in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan. Some of the
selected books are translated in the regional languages like Sindhi and Pushto. The department
has published a few books in English.
Special Numbers of Children Magazines
Each year CLD asks the editors of children magazines to publish a special number on a particular
proposed topic. The magazines publish their special numbers on the proposed theme. Later
the special numbers evaluated and awards are given to winners.
Research Projects
One of the objectives of CLD is to conduct research on different aspects of children literature.
Keeping in view this objective, CLD in the first phase started to evaluate the magazines for
children and their contents. In Pakistan, first of its nature evaluation of children magazines was
done in 1987. In the beginning it was being done monthly, but in the coming years this research
project was accomplished annually. This research project has its great impact. The researchers
analyses the contents of the magazines whether the magazines are publishing good and creative
literature for the children. Further, do the magazines are publishing positive writings in their
published issues or not. Along with the analysis of the magazines, CLD also get involved in the
evaluation of the weekly pages which are being published weekly in the daily newspapers. The
impact of electronic media is very much evident in the modern world. CLD made a one-time
research on the programs which were telecasted by Pakistan Television (PTV). This work was
done at that time when there were only two channels which were being telecasted in Pakistan.
Now more than seventy channels are broadcasting their programs. It is a need of time to make
an analysis on the contents of these channels. One of the main research work of CLD is its publication
of the Directory of Writers. This directory is unique in its nature as it contains only the
names of those writers who writes for children. The first edition of this directory published in
1999. CLD has published the latest and updated edition of the directory in the year 2014.
Conclusion
Pakistan is an ideological state. The society of Pakistan is very diverse in terms of religion, ethnicity,
language and culture. The area and region where Pakistan lies are very significant historically
and geographically. The Muslim presence in the Indian subcontinent has long historical
evidence. Muslims rulers reigned over India for almost a thousand years. It was 1947 when
Pakistan emerged on the globe as an Islamic state. Islamic ideology and the two-nation theory
defined the foundation of Pakistan. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founding father of Pakistan, had
a broad and clear vision about the future of Pakistan. He was not doubtful regarding the status
of the newly created country. Jinnah was very much convinced that Islam would be the future of
Pakistan. Every aspect of the society was supposed to be streamlined according to the teachings
of Islam. But unfortunately, the delay in constitution making created many hurdles. The Children
literature Department of Dawah Academy is unique in its nature. This is the only department
which at the same time is involved in training, research and publications. CLD has contributed
in the nation building through its books, training programs and research projects. The
department introduced new themes and perspectives which is being followed by some other
organizations of Pakistan. Along with these achievements CLD is not succeeded in the development
of audio/visual products for the new generation. Although there are many persons who
are progressing in the field of media in their personal capacity. These are the people who were
at some time get trained at the CLD. It is the need of time that CLD has to get involved in media.
Further it is analyzed that there is a large number of publications for children in Urdu but
there should be more publications in Arabic, English and regional languages of Pakistan as well.
It is concluded that the Chidlren Literature Department is one of the most influential government
organization which is serving the nation tremendously in its capacity.
