The history of Atria goes back to 1935. In the context of this article especially the history of the
library and archive part of Atria (former Aletta, former IIAV, former IAV) is of interest. On
December 3, 1935 the International Archive for the Women’s Movement (IAV) was founded by
feminists Rosa Manus, Johanna Naber and Willemijn Posthumus‐van der Goot. The collection of
the library and archive still holds the name it got in 1935. See: Francisca de Haan, “A "Truly
International" Archive for the Women's Movement (IAV, now IIAV): From its Foundation in
Amsterdam in 1935 to the Return of its Looted Archives in 2003,” Journal of Women’s History 16.4
(2004):148‐172.
