(1531-1782)<br />

<strong>La</strong> información que sigue es un resumen <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong>s principales disposiciones legales<br />

más relevantes. Se han marcado con un asterisco todas aquel<strong>la</strong>s que tuvieron un mayor<br />

impacto en su puesta en practica.<br />

1531 Concerning Punishment of Beggars and Vagabonds<br />

(22 <strong>Henry</strong> VIII e. 12)<br />

(i) Vagabonds to be whipped (rather than stocked as previously)<br />

and returned to p<strong>la</strong>ce of birth or dwelling for three years.<br />

(ii) Impotent to be licensed to beg by justices, mayor, bailiffs,<br />

etc.<br />

1536 For Punishment of Sturdy Vagabonds and Beggars<br />

(27 <strong>Henry</strong> VIII c. 25)<br />

(i) Returned vagabonds to be set to work and children put to<br />

service.<br />

(ii) Voluntary alms to be collected weekly by churchwar<strong>de</strong>ns or two<br />

others in every parish for the impotent, and accounted for.<br />

(iii) Casual alms giving banned, but with many provisions.<br />

(This Act technically <strong>la</strong>psed when not renewed <strong>la</strong>ter in 1536.)<br />

1547 For the Punishment of Vagabonds and Relief of the Poor and<br />

Impotent Persons<br />

(1 Edw. VI c. 3)<br />

(i) Vagabonds may be bound as s<strong>la</strong>ves for two years.<br />

(ii) Children to be put to service, work provi<strong>de</strong>d for aged poor and<br />

weekly collections for the impotent, who are not to beg.<br />

1550 Touching the Punishment of Vagabonds and other Idle Persons<br />

(3 & 4 Edw. VI. c. 16)<br />

(i) 1547 repealed and 1531 restored for vagabonds.<br />

(ii) Poor children to be put to service.<br />
