Sir John <strong>Fielding</strong> I<br />

In this letter Sir John <strong>Fielding</strong> gives his account to the Treasury of<br />

how he has spent his grant and what results he has achieved. He hopes for the same<br />

money next year. The signature hints at his blindness. (T1/413/270-299)<br />

And as the strictest<br />

Truth enables Your Memorialist to <strong>de</strong>c<strong>la</strong>re, that this P<strong>la</strong>n, from<br />

its yearly Improvement, has more than answered Your Lordships<br />

most sanguine Wishes, it having besi<strong>de</strong>s the many Nusances and<br />

Disor<strong>de</strong>rs it hath removed been the absolute Means of apprehending<br />

and <strong>de</strong>tecting Ten Highway men out of Eleven which have<br />

infested the Neighbourhood of London within these twelve Months.<br />

Your Memorialist therefore hopes that the usual Sum of<br />

Four hundred Pounds will be immediately directed to be paid to<br />

Your Memorialist for the above Purposes for the Services of the<br />

ensuing Year.<br />
