Stat. 18.ld.3.c.2. which
enacts, that two or three of
the most substantial persons
in the Counties shall be ap=
=pointed Guardians of the
Peace, by Commissions of the
King, and whenever need
may require, the same, with
other wise and learned in the
law shall be assigned by the
King's Commissions to hear
and determine Felonies and
Trespasses against the Peace,
in the same Counties, and
inflict reasonable punishment
according to the nature of
the offence.
