verschiedene, z. T. psychische Symptome beschreibende, Fragebögen
aus. Der Zeitraum zwischen Entbindung und Datenerhebung
liegt bei durchschnittlich 5 Jahren.
Diskussion / Ergebnisse: Hier werden vorläufige Ergebnisse von
insgesamt 145 Frauen präsentiert. Beschrieben werden einerseits
sozio-ökonomische und biografische Variablen, andererseits Daten
zur subjektiven Beeinträchtigung durch körperliche und psychische
Symptome (erhoben mittels Brief Symptom Inventory, BSI).
Children of mentally ill parents – results of two metaanalyses
F. Mattejat, B. Röhrle, C. Behner
Introduction: There are numerous studies on children of mentally
ill parents. While most studies identify risk factors, transmission
mechanisms and effectiveness and efficiency of intervention programs
are still under researched. Here we will present the results of
two metaanalyses; the first one (Lenz, Schulz, Christiansen & Röhrle,
in preparation) analyzes the transmission of parental psychopatho
logy with respect to child rearing practices and socio-economic
status (SES). The second one compares effectiveness and
efficiency of interventions designed for children of mentally ill parents.
Method: For the first metaanalysis, 69 studies that fulfilled all
study criteria, were analyzed with Comprehensive Metaanalys. The
second metaanalysis is currently being performed.
Discussion / Results: The first metaanalysis revealed significant influences
of parental psychopathology on children‘s internalizing or
externalizing disorders, with mother‘s psychopathology showing
stronger correlations than fathers. The following moderators had
additional significant influences: 2-parent families, source of information,
children’s age, and SES. The second metaanalysis is currently
being conducted. Transmission of parental psychopathology
especially with regard to parental impairment, onset, length, and
chornicity needs to be further explored in future studies. To understand
underlying mechanisms, future studies should also report a
thorough assessment of the child, age, and gender, temperament /
self-regulation, and parental child rearing practices (differentiated
for mothers and fathers). An “ideal” intervention fulfilling efficacy
and efficiency will be outlined.
Children of mentally ill parents – a randomized controlled trial
replicating a group intervention for children of parents with depression
Ulrich Schweiger (Universität zu Lübeck, Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie)
K. Kraft, F. Mattejat, B. Röhrle, H. Christiansen
Introduction: There is a widespread agreement, that children of
parents with mental disorders are at risk for poor life-outcomes
(higher risks for psychiatric disorders, developmental delays, poorer
academic careers, etc.). According to epidemiological studies,
9 % to 61 % of psychiatric patients have children under the age of
21. Intervention programs for those children, parents, and families
have been developed for specific disorders, but resulting effectiveness
and efficiency data are heterogeneous, and generalizability of
programs for different disorders is under researched. Results of a
German pilot studies on prevention for children of parents with
depression will be presented.
Method: A pilot group intervention for children of depressed parents
(wait-control-group design), based on the intervention manual
“Hope, Meaning, and Continuity” by Prof. W. Beardslee revealed
significant increases in knowledge about the disorder,
emotion discrimination, and social support (Binnen, Matthias, Siever
& Röhrle, 2008). This manualized intervention is to be replicated
in a randomized controlled trial.
Discussion / Results: The study is currently being conducted and
results will be prepared for the conference. Results will be discussed
with respect to future research and clinical implications. Possible
core intervention elements will be discussed.
