4.6.9. Als zowel het niet-infectieus proces als de ernstige sepsis aan de criteria van hoofddiagnose voldoen,
dan heeft de codeerder de keuze tussen de niet-infectieuze aandoening en de ernstige sepsis.
Slechts één code van de categorie SIRS wordt gebruikt in deze situatie en deze is afhankelijk van de
code van de hoofddiagnose. Als de veralgemeende infectie als hoofddiagnose wordt weerhouden, dan is
de overeenkomende SIRS code 995.92. Als de niet-infectieuze aandoening de hoofddiagnose is, dan is
de toepasselijke code 995.94 “Systemic inflammatory response syndrome due to non infectious process
with acute organ dysfunction” (SIRS, niet infectieus met acute orgaandysfunctie).
