He figurativelynoted, that many people consider Turkey to be a Europeancountry, its future being closely connected vvith Europe. It vvas so in thepast and Turkey will go on this road in the future. This is a nevv intrepretationof traditional political road, to vvhich Kemal Atatürk laid a foundation.Turkey is a very close country for Georgia. The complex historicalprocesses vvere natural, hovvever, there vvere also moments of friendship,friendly political relations from the 90,ies, especially since Georgia declaredindependence, entered a completely nevv phase. Both countries arepaying a great atcention to the caucasion regional problems, both countrieshave simultaneously confirmed their devotion to Helsinki closingact, to nevv Europe, to the principles given in Paris Chart, significantsleps vvere made to deepen relations in the fıelds of science, culture, tourism,education.There is a nevv turning point in the Georgian-Turkish relations. OnApril, 1, 1996, a declaration signed in Ankara by the presidents of Georgiaand Turkey, "Presidents expressed their fırm opinion, that everybodymust protect the principles of independence, sovereignty, eqsual rights,territorial integrity, in any form, noninterference in each others activitiesfor the sake of establishing peace and security in the region".
