In fact on 27 April 1998 aSeminar was held at the Nazrul Institute in Dhaka under the title "Kemalism,Instrument of Cultural Link betvveen Turkey and Bangladesh". Itvvas on the insistence of the then Turkish Ambassador in Dhaka H.E.K.Özcan Davaz, that the venue of Nazrul Institute vvas seleeted. He rightlyargued that Bangladesh National Poet Kazı Nazrul islam, was the unperishablespiritual bond betvveen Turkey and Bangladesh and thereforeNazrul Institute vvould be the appropriate venue.Prof. Dr. Türkkaya Ataöv, a distinguished professor of the PoliticalScience Faculty of the Ankara University, vvas a guest speaker on the occasionof celebration of the 75th Anniversary in Dhaka. It vvas very rightand proper that he should be the eminent guest speaker at the Nazrul Institute.Back in 1953 vvhen he vvas young and I vvas nearly his age, I vvasPress Attache of the Pakistan Embassy in istanbul. From our offıce at theHalaskar Gazi Caddesi (opposite a tiny museum of Atatürk) vve used tobiring out a fortnightly magazine called Pakistan Postası. TürkkayaAtaov, vvho vvas Editör of the magazine published the translation of poetNazrul islam's poem Kamal Pasha. It is necessary that I dvvell on this poem. It vvas vvritten in 1921,vvhen, I believe, nobody had heard of Mustafa Kemal and surely nobodyhad dedicated a poem to him. The poem is in the form of a drama and hasbeen sung and played by children of Bengal since time immemorial. Inthis poem poet Nazrul islam sings the praise of the heroic battle of Inde-* Retired Ambassador, Bangladesh.731
