Due tothis fact the Latinized Turkish spelling is not directly suitable for Tatar,for these reasons a number of Tatars in Finland wanted to replace theirlanguage vvith Turkish; they imported text books from Turkey and vvereinclined to join the political Pan-Turkish movement. This discrepancyvvas also reflected in the names of the community. 'Turks of Finland' isthe designation supported by the last-mentioned group. 'Turkish-Tatars'vvas quite usual a couple of decades ago; at present the designation 'Tatars'is in fashion again-although it stili demands additional explanationsfor people less familiar vvith these matters. An additional name to bementioned is the 'Volga Turks'.
