punches, but Joe keeps attacking Jimmy and destroyes him..10-7 for Frazier ( 2
KNOCKDOWNS)final comment: these were four VERY INTENSE rounds and this
fight is really a pleasure to watch. The final left hook by Frazier was a real
beauty. It's one of the best left hook I have ever seen, together with that
one in Frazier-Ali' 1 and Jerry Quarry's left hook in the fourth round of the
Quarry-Spencer fight. But Jimmy was in the fight to win, he fought like a real
warrior. He was no Clifford. |

Frazier avoided those he never fought simply because Ali fought all of them one
after the other in the same era.Even Joe admits that he was gentled
through. He acknowledged, "Yank and Cloverlay moved me through the
ranks."He added, "Mathis' people struggled to get their man taken
seriously." Joe told a reporter, "Mathis ? Oh, yeah. He's the one who fights
guys that get carried in one crutches."And then Joe fought Mathis. The
guys who fights invalids on crutches.Joe also fought legends like
Zyglewicz. Remember him ? Joe knocked him out in 36 seconds of the first round.
The second fastest knowckout in heavyweight history. After this
"fight", Joe admits that "the press made the fight out to be a farce abd
wondered whether Smokin' Joe was ducking the serious contenders to fight
dogmeat."So Joe was forced into fighting a serious guy named
Quarry.And after Joe beat Ali he decided on a holiday.Daniels
weighed 191 pounds. Joe weighed 215. A reporter asked Joe, "Is Daniels better
than your sparring partners ?" Joe answered, "A little." Joe knocked him down
four times in four rounds.Joe's next fight was against Stander. Here's
what Joe said about him, "He would weigh 218 pounds, but his training habits
were so slack, and his beer drinking so enthusiastic, that he had gone into the
ring weighing as much as 247 pounds."In fact, Kent, Stander's wife said
this about him at the time, "Ron gets hurt every time he goes in the ring
because he's never been in shape. How do I know Ron gets hurt ? Because after a

just want tosottolineare that when Frazier fought Mathis, Buster weighted
about 110 Kg and was near the top of his game ( he was at his very top probably
when he fought Quarry at about 105 Kg), while when Ali' fought Mathis, Mathis
weighted about 116 Kg and was washed up. This doesn't change much the things but
I thought it was worth saying. |

Stander didn't get in good enough shape but it doesn't change the fact that he
fought well against Frazier and had a win over Shavers. In watching this fight
with Frazier, you can tell Stander had some talent and potential that he didn't
use enough of during his career.We can go to anyone's record and find
fighters that a champion or contender fought and someone will claim they were
