Hearns was tall and skinny like Jimmie Walker (Massimo, that's Kid Dyn-o-mite!).
But damned, Hearns punches slammed home like a sledgehammer.|
than an Idrogen atom and was shorter than Andre' but could punch like hell. His
professional record was 131-3-2 ! Could Andre' punch ? Who knows ? Could Alex
P.Keaton punch ? Could Ralph Malph punch ? Could Alfred Del Vecchio punch ?
Could Fonzie punch ? I just wonder...|
|9/17/04 03:06:16 PM|Richie C. but not Massimo, there are two of us.|Mikwakee,
Wis.||same as before||||10|Chaci, Chaci, Chaci, AKA Fonzie's cousin, could punch
but in an important bout, he fought with a broken hand. His oppponent really
beat him up and he even hit Chaci after the fight was over and the Fonz knocked
him out with one punch.|
against a guy that (or who, i haven't understood well yet) was twice his size !
Ralph showed a big heart but was beaten unfortunately. Well, Fonzie knocked out
that big guy with one punch ! If Potsie had fought George Chuvalo, he would have
likely lost, but Fonzie would have knocked George Chuvalo out with one punch !|
even though steroids are a controlled substance, the punishment is light. Has
anyone ever gone to jail for it ?My view is taking steroids helps some
sports and not others. I say again that a good boxer without steroids will
always beat a bad boxer with steroids. But that is not the case in other
sports. Sprinters seem to get a lot of benefit from steroids, as in Ben
Johnson's case. Steroids seem to give explosive off-the-mark power that benefits
sprinters a lot. Maybe the benefit of steroids is more in the legs than the
arms.Obviously the power sports like weightlifting and throwing the
steel ball (shotput ?) would benefit greatly from steroids, too. But I
don't think swimmers benefit too much. Most swimmers have a svelte body and
moving faster through the water is largely based on technique rather than power.
That is why you find world record holders being kids rather than fully matured
adults. Also, I don't think steroids assist lung volume. Steroids might
give muscles more endurance, but I don't think they allow you to breath in more
air.I don't thik steroids would really increase punching power in a
boxer. Punching power is achieved through leverage, balance, timing, and speed.
Muscle bulk probably slows the arm down and, thus, lessens the impact of a punch
(in my opinion, anyway).Perhaps steroids might help a boxer who is
genetically poor. For someone not born with the right genes for a great
physique, steroids might help make up the shortfall. Some people don't seem to
get the benefit from training and weights that others get, so a course of
steroids plays catch-up for the puny types. However, for genetically
superior types like Foreman and Tyson, the benefit might only be miniscule and
worthless. If steroids are the be-all of muscle benefit and endurance,
then scientists would not have needed to invent Viagra to assist budding Romeos.
If steroids were doing the job with all that horizontal folk dancing stuff, then
guys like Fran and Massimo wouldn't now be on Viagra. So, by the very
fact that Viagra exists, I believe it safe to assume that scientists conclude
that steroids do not help ALL of our muscles. |
|9/17/04 05:18:53 PM|Massimo|Roma||4||||10|Has anybody of you ever seen Ali' in
his early fights against Hunsaker,Siler,Fleeman Clark, Sabedong, Miteff etc ? I'
d like to know if ( or whether) he was as fast as in Roma 1960, when he won the
gold medal in the flyweight division. He was almost impossible to hit in Roma.
Grazie.|
|9/17/04 05:43:04 PM|Bob Bumbera|NC||renfbera@aol.com||||10|I'm sure you could
make a fighters punches faster with the right training and drugs. You can do it
with sprinters right? A guy like Chris Byrd who was a middleweight then three
years later 210 pounds, a pretty good size 210 pounds too. Did he benefit from
