more rounded scope of teaching and really learned the craft, he might not have
ever won a title---but he would have been a serious contender for a long time
and would have retired with a better record than he did. |
don't have any knowledge as to what became of Mickey Davies. They sure did put
on some good cards at the old Olympic Auditorium.I remember in one of
the early UNC tournaments that former cruiserweight champion Alfred Cole entered
and came in seacond place, he was beaten by a Jiu Jutsu expert by a submission
hold in the finals but of course had won all of his puliminary matches going
into the finals.|
exception of KEN SHAMROCK, I figure he is a real boxer/FIGHTER. Email me your
address and i'll send you a detailed 4 page copy of JERRY QUARRY'S "REAL" boxing
record I Researched from microfilm of every one of JERRY'S BOUTS INCLUDING
CRANMER! It includes stats like the weight differentuals, scores, time/KO-TKO, I
EVEN have a column if JERRY or the other fighter was rankedin the top ten going
into the bout by RING MAGAZINE.|
I think David Tua is a devastating puncher and can be a factor in the
heavyweight picture. Would Bob Foster have knocked down Tua in less than
3 rounds ?? Maybe the other way around !Leon Spinks ? I respectfully
disagree.And David Tua went the distance with Lennox Lewis, who is a better
puncher than Ali', Holmes and Young. I think David Tua can be outboxed by guys
like Young and Byrd, but not easily knocked out. As I said before Tua-Tyson
around 1996 would probably have been a great fight! Puncher against puncher,
like George-Ron or Ron-Earnie.|
|5/24/06 05:01:41 PM|Angelo|Washington, DC||funktron||||10|Massimo: You're
correct that Tua is a tough guy and maybe difficult to KO---but that description
fits Tex Cobb too. A schooled fighter like Larry Holmes could box circles
around either one of them. Tua-Tyson, 1996, might very well be interesting. I
think a younger Tyson from the late 80's/early 90's would pose a huge problem
for Tua because he would come after Tua from the opening bell, relentlessly. By
'96, the gig was over and Tyson's heart wasn't 100% in it anymore. |
weight! That takes an iron will.Knowing you have that kind of determination
allmost makes me think your an allright guy.Just playing with you.I realy admire
your resolve.I also think your a darn good sports writer based on the articles
I've read.Your probably just a little weak in pro football analysis.|
|5/25/06 02:41:22 PM|Steve|NJ||na||||10|How you doing,Jimmy Dorsey and Eugene.I
dont know what I'm talking about on the subject of the Ken Shamrock,street
fighting type of fighting.It looks to me like super trained,very tough dudes
,just fighting almost without any restrictions,and with referees who are
basically there to prevent a murder.I honestly dont think any of them would get
into the top 10 in pro.boxing.|
|5/25/06 03:09:24 PM|Steve|NJ||NA||||10|Angelo,I just thought I'd throw this
little story at you since you mentioned dogs a little while back.My one year old
huskey and my eleven year old huskey always playfight.They both ,however,are
close to 80 lbs.The fighting can get pretty rough and tumble.The one year old
dislocated his kneecap.He just had surgery ,two pins put in to hold his patella
in place.On bringing him out of the docters office,they were weighing a
Rottwieller named "Nitro".He weighed 110lbs.Nitro and my Huskey,named
"Casey",{named because he is a red haired huskey}began smelling and licking each
other in mutual sympathy.So much for the fearsome rep.of the Rottwieler,huh. |
|5/25/06 10:33:14 PM|Steve|NJ||na||||10|Massimo,remember that big puncher,Ike
Iabiuchi,or something like that.He flattened Tua in one or two rounds.That guy
was a serious one punch knockout artist in the same range as
