L.A.||kentallenent@aol.com||||10|In a an action packed bout, Coetzee knocks out
C. Williams in the eighth round. Bowe knocks out Machen in round number
six.Massimo, I should not post without my glasses. When I do, I make
more typing mistakes. I was just jokingly being a fair weather Laker fan
because they face elimination from the playoffs.La Habra is in northern
Orange County, California and is considered a slightly different area than Los
Angeles. Anaheim is probably the largest city in Orange County. So I live
closer to there than I do to L.A. |
Williams vs. Gerrie Coetzee is actually a very good match. Williams, a very good
puncher and boxer would aggressively take the fight to the South African, but
finds in Coetzee, who was briefly champ, a very good boxer also, a very accurate
counterpuncher. Williams would clearly lead early, then the bigger Coetzee would
get his opening. Coetzee by KO8. Bowe would struggle early with Machen, a very
good courageous 200 pounder, before giving him the Sonny Liston treatment.
Machen lasts long though, TKO 9 for the very talented Bowe.|
Machen went the distance with Sonny Liston? I know he did with Frazier.I have
him losing a decision to Bowe.At his best,in the time period after Marciano
,Cleveland was a big,big puncher. Some thought he hit as hard as Sonny
Liston,just didn't have Liston's chin.I'm not as sure about his stamina.I pick
Coetzee in a late round tko,as I do remember he took a good shot, and had a
knochout punch.|
I thought Morrison was going on in the tournament, Commission?? Like I said IF
Tommy could get by Both Foreman, Ruddock. And show a lot of heart beating both
Williams and Hipp.despite the chin, could beat the likes of Bruno.|
forgot all about Joe Hipp.He was an American Indian, wasn't he?Would somebody
please answer my question, did Machen go the distance with Liston.I can't seem to
locate it in the book of boxing.Jimmy, and Kent,If you want to smell dairy and
pig farms, come to south Jersey!I can take you thirty minutes from Camden, and you
huge,wonderful country to be a part of!|
Machen went the distance (12 rounds) with Liston. Basically Eddie fought a
defensive fight but did get some good shots in. Liston won by points even though
he got penalized for fouls.|
your recollection of the event where JQ recognized the lesser known fighter
takes us back to a different era, and also reminds everyone here that Jerry
might have had some wealth, fame and the perks that go with it---but probably
thought of himself, even at the height of his popularity, as a regular guy. In
the past 2-3 decades, most athletes have become prima-donnas---they might as
