good movie. Does anyone know whether a movie was made about him ? He was the
real Rocky."NOAM, I saw a film on ROCKY just recently. I can't recall
the title but if focused quite a bit on him being screwed by his management and
his relationship with JOE LOUIS. How much was fact or fiction is anyone's guess.
am not the Muffinman but I like it when these fringe chrarcters show up here and
even I miss the Koo Koo Klock, even if he is a redneck.Where are you Koo
Koo?I am kind of disappointed my pal Paul Maduros doesn't post here
anymore. I think he got sick of some of the characters raking him over the
coals. Paul really is Jerry's biggest fan. It was a goal of his to
come out to California to visit Jerry's gravesite. He, Mr. Jimmy, and myself
were planning to go together but that can't happen now as Jimmy died too. |
"Fans" quoted in the posts re: Forrest. One from Fandom and myself. I assure
you I am not Forrest, if anyone really cares. My father was at ringside
for Marciano-Charles at Yankee Stadium in 1954. His most vivid memory was, as
he described it, hearing the air "whoosh" out of Charles when Rocky landed body
shots. Re: Moore - Quarry fans will remember that he despised Jerry, and
the Quarrys felt the same way about him. I have an old magazine in which Jack
Quarry wrote a scathing article entitled "Who Is Archie Moore?", responding to
Moore's criticisms of Jerry. Finally, re: elbows - Joe Frazier belongs on
the list of masters. Surprisingly, though Jerry acknowledged this, he also said
the dirtiest fighter he ever faced was Floyd Patterson.|
1979 TV movie, which was pretty bad as I recall.|
courage in his loss to Marciano. He really got a pounding, but he kept fighting
and couldn't do any more than he did trying to win. Archie would be looking down
shaking his head in disgust at Tyson quitting last month.Moore, Charles,
and Foster were three really quality light heavies. I don't know much about
Johnson. I'll have to do some research. I didn't know that there was bad feelins
between Moore and the Quarrys. I wonder what that was about.Joey and Fan
, I'll see if I can find the movie you guys saw about Rocky. Thanks.|
too!Kent-I think the KooKoo Clock is not here anymore because
I'm still here! He never liked me too much! |
sinthesis of the Marciano-Moore fight and it was GREAT. I think Marciano wasn't
that good stilistically for being a top 10 all time heavyweight (he fought like
a drunk man in a bar) but was so damn effective. Another interesting fight I
would like to see is Marciano-Layne fought in 1951. Marciano was an underdog in
that fight but... Who you think won that fight ? Rex Layne was a good
heavyweight of the 50s, at 6'1" 195 lbs, he had a pretty good right hand. Harold
Johnson was one of the best, his fights with Archie Moore are legendary. In one
of them Moore knocked him out in round 14, but it was a very hard fight for both
fighters (Archie was knocked down, if I remember well). Harold fought Eddie
Machen, Archie Moore, Doug Jones, Jersey Joe Walcott and many others top
contenders. |
the article was in Boxing Illustrated, post-Ellis and pre-Frazier (so late 1968
- early 1969). Apparently, Archie had made several derogatory remarks about
Jerry and the current heavies, including Ellis and Frazier. He had also opined
that he could name five heavyweights who could take Jerry at the time. Jack was
not happy. Years later, there was still bad blood. Moore was running
Earnie Shavers' camp for rookie fight manager Don King, when Earnie was
preparing for his fight with Jerry. Moore brought in Jeff Merritt to work with
