well be the Queen of England. Your story showed the side of JQ that we like so
much---a regular guy you could sit down, have a drink with and talk to. |
|6/16/04 09:20:06 AM|Kent|La Habra, Ca||kentallenent@aol.com||||10|Angelo, that
is exactly one of the main reasons I am a fan of Jerry's to this
day.When people ask me, "what is the big deal about Jerry Quarry?" I
tell them that even Jerry was a world class athelete, he was a regular guy you
could talk to. He never acted like he was above us, ever.I would like
to make a comparison to a boxing announcer I met, the beautiful Amy Hayes, who
introduces fighters on Fox Sports Network boxing shows and sometimes ESPN 2
cards as well and compare her to another, more famous announcer in Michael
Buffer of "let's Get Ready to rumble" lucky fame. Buffer, who drives a car so
expensive it looks more like a spaceship than a car, doesn't even look in your
eyes when you speak to him. He seems to have a very standoffish attitude.
While Amy will laugh and joke with you and she remembered the incident and me
when I mentioned that I was singing to her and the ESPN 2 guys told me to shut
up. Amy also has a better attitude than a couple of ring card girls
that I have seen at several shows and have spoken to. When I said hello to them
a second time, they gave me phony, plastic smiles and they looked past me as if
I wasn't worthy enough to speak to them. They probably think they are going to
famous actresses when in reality they are probably going to be nothing more than
T and A symbols, carrying the ring round cards and nothing more, ever. |
|6/16/04 09:34:53 AM|Massimo|Roma, not Los Angeles||shaq, who
?||||10|CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DETROIT PISTONS !Shaq is a bum. Wilton
Norman, yeah, was indeed a player ! Shaq ain't even that big, CalvinLane
is bigger ! Andre' was bigger also (or too)...How can you beat the Rockets,
the Spurs, theTimbercats and then getting creamed by theDetroit Who
Pistons ? I was born in Pisa, I couldn't care less about the Los Angeles Lakers
! I hate basketball ! |
|6/16/04 12:45:29 PM|Kent|La Habra, Ca||kentallenent@aol.com||||10|Massimo, our
team got beat by a team that played hard. Congratulations to the Detroit
Pistons, champions of the NBA. I was joking when I pointed out that I
live closer to Anaheim than to L.A. The Lakers are still my team and they always
will be.By the way, I saw Andre the Midget in person and he looked to me
to be as tall as Wilt Chamberlain and Mel Counts, who were 7'1" and 7'0"
respectively. They looked about the same to me, a ten year old kid back
then.Andre sure made "Classy" Freddie Blassie look short. Wrestling
fans, remember him?|
|6/16/04 01:13:52 PM|Massimo|Roma||4||||10|I love the Lakers too, but I am a
very disappointed lover.Kent, you are a lucky person, you met allthe
greatest legends who ever walked onthis Earth: Wilt, Andre', Jerry... Here
in Italy the most legendary guy I have met is the ex-tennis player
Adriano Panatta ( about 6'1" tall ) whowon the Roland Garros in 1976 and the
Davis Cupin the same year. He ain't a chump in comparisonto the guys you
met, brother ! Only Shaq and Calvin still lack on your list ( do they lack ? )
When did you met the Midget ? Andre's height will ever be a mistery in the
mankind history. They say he was 7'4" or 7'5", some say 6'11", some 6'10"
and inRateitall.com there is even a guy who say he was 6'7"at best ! Now
Kent, the only thing I know for sure is that he was taller than you, and this
isalready a good accomplishment as you are a 5'11" plus pituitary giant !
What do you remember of your meeting with Andre' Rene' ?|
|6/16/04 01:42:57 PM|Angelo|Washington, DC||funktron@yahoo.com||||10|Fred
Blassie, of "Pencil Neck Geek" fame! That's a blast from the past. How about
the Grand Wizard and Lou Albano? I liked the old WWWF better than the new
Hollywood style wrestling. I'd say it peaked in the early 80's. It got too
glitzy after that. It's hard to tell how tall Andre was---he was a heavyweight,
so proportionately, he would have looked taller if he was thinner. He seemed
noticeably taller than Hulk Hogan. How tall is Hogan? |
