scandalous and should not have been printed. Personally, I thought it was great.
To me it made Rocky more genuine and human like the rest of us. But, once again,
Rocky was a very complicated person|
Alighieri||4||||10|Angelo-The 6'6" Ivan Drago would kill Ken Norton just
like he killed the about 6'1" Apollo Creed. I remember that Apollo made love
just before dying in the ring (he had a movement on the canvas). Ivan just hit
too hard for Kenny, he hit twice harder than Ernie Shavers. The williams is that
Rocky's jaw was much better than Chuvalo's. Heck, Chuvalo had a glass jaw in
comparison ! |
accordance with the bench mark that seems to have been set during this discusion
about who avoided who.Sometimes shrewd management can bring out a fighter's true
potential,and not squander it.I think if Jerry's career,handled
differently,could have gone alot farther.If he hadn't fought Frazier when he did
the first time,and taken a pretty bad beating,he might have had more in his gas
tank for Ellis,when it really counted in terms of just getting a title. He might
have been stronger,more mature,more confident,and definetly smarter about
playing to his opponent's strenth's.Gill Clancy said,{Jerry always took every
fight as a personal challenge of manhood.If his opponent was a boxer,Jerry would
go out and try to box with him.If he was a slugger,Jerry would go out and trade
punches ".I't's not about avoiding a fighter,it,s about timing,knowing when to
fight him in your career.Isen't it wiser to get to the title the safest way he
can? Then you can fight all contenders for as much money as you can get.Prize
fighting is not about being brave to the point of stupidity.In the final
analysis,IT'S a business.We who injoy the mayham should judge more gently.|
Clubber Lang or Frazier?|
|3/9/05 05:03:48 PM|Steve|N.J||na||||10|Angelo,Clubber Lang was a fighter like
Shavers.Frazier was a fighter more in the mold of a Quarry,a strong,wily
aggresive counter puncher.You know what happened in Shavers vs Quarry.|
|3/9/05 05:37:23 PM|Steve|N.J.||NA||||10|Kent, as per my previous post.I thing
Cloverlay was the best thing that ever happened to Joe Frazier.He was managed by
professionals.Maybe all fighters should be treated as a commodity,and sold out
as shares in a corperation.Just like the excutives in the corp., at least he
might get health and pension benifits.|
|3/9/05 05:38:37 PM|Massimo |Roma||4||||10|Angelo-Clubber Lang's
punches were really impressive during (or even throughout) the entire ROCKY 3
from the beginning (when he told Mickey "I want Balboa !") to his second fight
with Rocky for the title. I think that Mr.T has to be very strong in (the) real
life. What a power ! Frazier would have to be carefull (or careful) in the first
3 rounds; if he is still on his feet after 3 rounds, Clubber is in trouble.
Clubber has never fought more than 3 rounds in his entire career. So, or Clubber
by KO in the early rounds or Frazier by mid round stoppage ( somewhere between
the 6 and the 8 round). Ali' would have no problem at all with Clubber ! He
would use the "rope a dope" strategy and would tell him "that's all you got ?"
and "what's my name ?". He would knock Clubber out in eight to show he is great
!|
|3/10/05 04:50:54 AM|Steve|N.J.||NA||||10|Kent,I must be even dumber than I
thought I was.What happened to Sen. John McCains's and Sen. Byron Dorgan's
proposal of the Senate Bill 275 ?What does it mean that it was amended by the
Muhammed Ali Boxing Reform Act of 2000? McCain feels only the federal government
can effectively reform and regulate professional boxing. I think he's correct!I
hope he runs for President in the next election.|
