have had a tougher time fighting either Joe Frazier or Tyson than he would of
Ali. None of us can say for sure who would have won. My only question is , why
did Ali refuse to fight Chamberlain? It would have been a great gate and all of
us agree that Ali loved money. Chamberlain all but got down on his knees to get
Ali to sign for a fight. I agree that it would not be that easy for a person to
go from one sport to another (ask Michael Jordan), but Chamberlain was a very
special athlete. I certainly do not want to offend anyone and state that the
years of training that these great fighters put in would not make a great
difference, but my question still remains. Oh, by the way I have been on a lot
of sports websites and I appreciate the calm and intelligent manner of the
people on this site.|
Chamberlain/Ali fight would be a joke. Ali would toy with him. Chamberlain
couldn't beat even a halfway good amateur fighter assuming he came into boxing
w/o a lot of experience. There was a football player (Lyle Alzado maybe?)
who, i remember, sparred very well for quite a few rounds with Ali. I remember
Ali saying "for a non pro he was great".|
Lyle Alzado who fought an exhibition with Ali but the difference between Alzado
and Chamberlain is Alzado did have some amatuer boxing experience.Alzado
and Ali fought about eight rounds and Alzado did land some punches but he didn't
win a round but he did do quite well for a non professional boxer.Ali
was nowhere near fighting shape though. I remember hearing rumors
afterwards that a Lyle verses Lyle match in the Denver area was in the works as
in Ron Lyle verses Lyle Alzado. I think the boxer Ron Lyle would have knocked
out the football player Lyle A in less than five rounds.|
Klitschko beat Byrd already but that was a while back.It is an
interesting match up though and Wladimir may finally get a piece of a major
heavyweight title.Byrd doesn't have much of a punch and that is in
Wladimir's favor as he is less likely to get knocked out or down.|
Hypoglycemia.I remember a Docter telling Him that the best way to drink orange
juice is by swishing around a mouthfull, mixing it with your saliva, then
swallow.Gulping orange juice when your dehydrated is too much sugar, too fast.It
will actually cause an exessive amount of insulin to be dumped into your
blood.Causing the same lowering of blood sugar as soda would.Go figure. |
theory on fighters spitting out water.First of,if you've noticed, most are
allowed one or two swallows after spitting out several mouthfulls after swishing
them around. As you know, alot of old training methods where unnecesary to say
the least.The military,during Vietnam,stressed water discipline.Fight trainers
where afraid if fighters didn't have water discipline, they might drink too
much, and throw up.The military finaly realized that dehydrated men lose muscle
strenth and control.today they actually force troops to drink their
min.requirement of fluids.I thinh the same realization is coming to boxing
trainers.|
drinking the water would make a fighter "cramp up." Ron Lyle would have knocked
out Lyle Alzado in the first round. I don't care if Alzado fought as an amatuer
or not----he was a football player. In a real competition that both guys were
trying to win hard, Ron Lyle would get it over with quick. Now, there is a
chance that Alzado could take a punch like Tex Cobb---that being the case, he
might make it out of the first round, but the fight would be stopped in the
