to your post. Hey, I come here because I love boxing, <strong>Jerry</strong> was a hero of mine<br />

and I like to re-live the past little bit, maybe gain a new insight or<br />

perspective on some idols of my youth. And this site has done that for me. As<br />

for the Ali-Louis fight. I'll have to go with Ali. Louis was not that great<br />

when opponents showed movement and kept him off balance. Tommy Farr and more so<br />

Billy Conn showed that. Conn was 5'11" at 174. Ali would come in about an inch<br />

and a half taller and 10 pounds heavier than Louis, Ali had size, speed and was<br />

too smart to get cornered by Joe. Ali by 9th round KO. |<br />

thought <strong>Jerry</strong> was rushed too quickly into the big time. He fought Machen at age<br />

21 and Patterson for the first time at 22. He also had his only two title shots<br />

at age 25, against Ellis and Frazier. <strong>Jerry</strong> had so many tough fights that by<br />

the time he was 29, he was through as a major talent. Bear in mind he also had<br />

over 200 amatuer fights. In hindsight, maybe if he had been brought along<br />

slower, than maybe he would have had a better chance of winning a title. In<br />

contrast, Wladimir Klitschko of Ukrain is now 26 and he has not had near the<br />

level of competition that <strong>Jerry</strong> had early. Klitschko is the biggest threat to<br />

Lennox Lewis around (both literally and figurtivly) but could it be that he is<br />

being moved too slowly? <strong>The</strong> opposite of <strong>Jerry</strong>?|<br />

could box, take a puch, was gutty, but was not a great puncher. We all know<br />

stopped Louis late in a match that would be very tough in the early going. When<br />

Ali's weight tolled in the later rounds a battered Joe would be caught on the<br />

ropes defenseless as Ali 'ripped into him'. <strong>The</strong> Winner is the greatest. I think<br />

<strong>Jerry</strong> would have edged Joe Bugner in a tight match because of his greater<br />

BUGNER CAME ON IN 75' WHERE QUARRY HAD THE WARS WITH FRAZIER,NORTON. I USE TO<br />

NEUMANN WAS A BETTER FIGHTER THAN EVER GIVING CREDIT FOR,HELL HE WAS A COLLEGE<br />

STUDENT WITH A 22-2 RECORD, NO PUNCH,BUT I SEEN HIM WIN EVERY ROUND VS BOONE<br />

KIRKMAN ON THE 1975 FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS, ALSO ONE MORE THING,I HEARD OF RAY<br />

"WINDMILL" WHITE'SPARRING EXPERIMENT WITH JQ IN L.A. WHEN WHITE WAS A<br />

HEAVYWEIGHT EARLY ON.JERRY STARTED OFF TAKING IT EASY WHICH RAISED SOME<br />

EYEBROWS, THEN WHITE CLINCHED AND DID ONE OF HIS PATENTED BEHIND THE BACK<br />

PUNCHES TO THE FACE,JERRY WAS NOT AMUSED CORNERD WHITE AND DECKED HIM BREAKING A<br />

thanks for the info it was interesting. Kirkman as never the same after the<br />

first Foreman fight - his confidence vanished after that beating. I think that<br />

<strong>Jerry</strong> and Bonavena would have been a very good fight. Another very good<br />

forgotten fighter is Larry Middleton who <strong>Jerry</strong> just barely beat over in England.<br />

Bugner gave Ali and Frazier very hard fights and was much bigger than <strong>Jerry</strong>. Too<br />

close to call in my book. |<br />
