means any harm. |
would say all of those guys were extremely tough, it is hard to pick one. Where
is my hero George "Scrap Iron?" You said tough, not best.Or how about
Bonavena, if without going back to your post, he was left off of your
list?I think I will let everyone else pick the toughest as I can't pick
one. There were a lot of tough heavyweights back then. |
I asked the question about toughness. If you dont want to communicate with me on
this site,say so!!|
just trying to steer this conversation in a more interesting direction.I'd
rather hear more about how the Quarry family is doing and handling all thier
recent family losses.|
|8/1/05 08:41:10 PM|Steve|nj||na||||10|Fan,Noam,I think even Kent is getting
numb and shell shocked over this one subject, you know, about Frazier ducking
opponents.I'm at the point where I'd rather post about commodities.Corn and
wheat futures. |
|8/1/05 08:57:07 PM|Angelo|DC||funktron@yahoo.com||||10|Fan: So what if Hauser
has a "soft spot" for Ali? If you're basically someone's historian, you're
generally going to gain admiration and respect for the person. This is the case
if you're writing about Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Don Shula, Elton John or
Muhammad Ali. I think Hauser probably BECAME a fan by writing about Ali and
getting to know him---not by being a fan first. If he's writing facts, that's
what counts. If he's editorializing, you can take what he says with a grain of
salt if it's too pro-Ali. But the fact that he admires Ali doesn't change the
fact that pointing out the deficincies in Frazier's record stands up to
scrutiny. Quack.By the way, a tough fighter in the later 70's and 80's was
Tex Cobb. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. He was good in "Raising
Arizona" too.|
|8/1/05 09:32:25 PM|Steve|nj||na||||10|Aggelo,being an objective,impartial,or
even an admiring historical biographer is one think.Being a guy that writes, how
many books on Ali? What did Ali ever do to merit four books about his life?
Sounds like true love to me.Or just a hack writer, hanging on to Ali,and making
money. If Hauser ever wrote a relevant book on a true historical figure that
actually did something for society besides promote a hate group that helped
devide america,at the worst possible time in our history, then I will apoligize
to you on this site. |
|8/1/05 09:34:21 PM|Noam|same||same||||10|Fan, you are being more than a little
dishonest about Hauser. You challenged someone to show where Ali revoked his
'all white men are devils' comment nearly half a century ago. I provided a
credible quote in a published book (Brutal Artistry) acclaimed by newspapers and
boxing journals, but you went back on your word.I invited you to
discredit Hauser's basic premise that you judge fighters by the hard fights
they've won, not the easy fights they've won. You couldn't answer that
challenge. You hid and said nothing.I asked you to pick out the passages
from Hauser's books that qualify him as biased, but you won't do that
either.I mentioned to you that in his main book on Ali, Hauser didn't
tell the story himself. He told it using verbatum first person words from both
sides - Ali and Frazier, Dundee and Futch, and many others. I asked, "How is
that biased ?" Again no comment from you.I also mentioned that your
allegation of bias does not discredit Hauser's claim that Ali recanted the
'white men are devils' comment in 1984. To discredit that claim, you have to
argue that Ali didn't recant and that Hauser made it all up. In other words, he
lied. Again, you didn't comment. All you could say was that I was using
lawyer's arguments. No, Fan. I applied logic to your words and, guess what ? You
