eing looked at closely as a stoppage?Paul -I can't convince
you. No one can prove the Foreman fight was fixed, myself included. I just think
it was, given Ali being Ali, moneymaking machine, mystique, people he knew and
all, and George being the killing machine we all knew he was. Now, ala my first
point in this post, George is widely viewed as a devastating puncher, but also
as a wheezing pansy who couldn't go more than five rounds without getting in
trouble, even after winning the title again at 45.|
"favorite fighter" went through a ton of good men, and devastated most. He beat
Ali once, possibly twice, and was beating him up in Manila on one eye (which
finally betrayed him). No one can truthfully say that he wasn't an elite fighter
of the ages, or that more than a small handful of former champions would even
have stood a chance with him, let alone won. Once more though, people remember
his fights with Foreman. Joe had as big an ego as Ali, and had he not been ruled
by it, would have known he'd have to fight George differently than anyone else
he'd ever been up against. I also don't understand why anyone didn't get him to
use his right hand more, or even his jab, which was a good one when he used it,
particularly in close with his ability to double punch with one hand.|
Frazier did use his head a lot. Jerry did say thatJoe needed a glove on his
head also. He did have a flat coco head :)))|
for the response. I gotta say that I don't agree on the calibre of Joe's
opponents, and his losses to Foreman were so bad that, in my eyes at least, his
overall standing among history's heavyweights must be affected. I didn't mean to
be condescending when I described him as your "favourite" heavyweight; I just
know that you rate him much higher than me. You still haven't explained why Joe
didn't fight guys like Norton, Lyle, Shavers, and the rest I mentioned before.
Also, I can't agree with what you said about the final Ali v Frazier fight.
Cheers. |
CALIFORNIA||ronnyrains@yahoo.com||||10|WE had an apoloosa that was so smart he
could almost talk, maybe an exception, he also held 350 yard sprint record ,
beating much bigger quarter horses and thourough breds in BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIA
for 1969, we also showed him and he won about 100 trophies, and was a beautiful
horse KID BROWNIE. He would prance like an ARABIAN with his neck, and acted like
everyone there was there to see him, very unique animal,Talked to a great fighter
last night in the person of "IRISH" GIL KING a great welterweight from 1965-73
36-5-1 21 KO'S, We talked about all the great California fighter's of his era,He
confirmed That Jerry Quarry was a "GREAT GUY" AND his tarnished image was
press/media related, and by no means was unpopular with the fighter's
themselves. And that Quarry had personally invited him to his MASSACRE CANYON
CAMP IN SAN JACINTO,5 of King's first 6 bouts were one-round ko's,and had quite
a few names on his record at BOXING REC.|
of Australia has written one of the most insightful and persuasive posts in a
while. Ali remains even now the king of the hill, the gold standard of all
boxers and even athletes, and it's human nature for some like RS to want to pull
him down. Speaking of RS, look at these 2 comments: With
reference to the Kinshasa, Zaire fight, she asks: "Curses and magic? :-) Do you
really think George bought into that?" Yes, he did, and has admitted it
many times, including in writing. Consider the context of Zaire then. It's a
blazing tropical Third World place, isolated from the West. The people are
animists, meaning they attribute spirits to every tree, rock, house, road,
person, etc. George is an uneducated ghetto black with a huge ego, and he goes
there to train for weeks if not months. He has only his own entourage to talk
