have won against Ali that day under almost any circumstances. It was fate for
Ali to regain the title and pull the upset. Foreman was a co-star in the movie,
but Ali was the star. If there had been a rematch, I think Foreman MIGHT have
taken Ali. He could have gone to the body more to take Ali's legs away. He
could have punched more selectively to avoid fatique. But you know, Ali
withstood Shavers best and it makes me wonder if Foreman could have KOed Ali,
even if he connected. It would be tough for Foreman to go the then 15 round
distance. "Ali's Alley" was rounds 10-15 and who's to say that Foreman would
have enough gas in the tank that late in the fight? Foreman made his name by
taking guys out in 2 or 3 rounds, not outboxing them over 15. It's why I
respect the new Foreman so much---he learned to pace himself and stay
competitive over the whole fight. |
for that story on Jerry "visiting" Charlie, his ex. It gives more insight on what
Jerry was really like. I just rewatched the Ali-vs-Forman
fight.Ali was landing hard right hand leads throughout the entire fight. He out
fought Foreman the entire fight. Those last two rounds of rope-a-dope body
punches by Foreman meant nothing.Ali was just setting him up for the
knockout. The only fighter who ever really tested Ali's spirit to win was Joe
Frazier. As for politics,no matter who our next president is.Make no mistake
,gentleman, this country is in for a long ,bloody war with terrorism.I've spent
alot of time in Vietman, and I can see the parallels.I can see it coming.I think
we will be hit again before the elections.|
|9/10/04 09:46:51 AM|Evren|London||@||||10|Steve you are right. It is very very
upsetting. On all sides there is too many people dying. President Bush said the
other day 'it was worth it'. I disagree because who's freedom are they fighting
for ? I saw a very disturbing documentary by an American journalist who was in
the 'thick of things' in Falujah and he spoke to literally hundreds of
shopowners, locals, police - everyone. All the opinions were unanimous that they
DID NOT WANT America or Britain in their country. They feel that we are not
righteous and they do not want western morals/standards in their country. This
is a difficult situation to say the least - they said that every person in Iraq
would give their lives up to remove the 'West' from their country. In solving
one problem America have created so many more..and it is the man on the street
that pays..I hope all out soldiers get home safe. Sorry for straying off the
boxing subject.|
|9/10/04 05:15:15 PM|Noam|Miama||chom@hotmail.com||||10|There are just as many
surveys showing that a majority of the Iraqi population actually want us in
there. Undoubtedly, these were right wing surveys, just like the documentary
showing otherwise was left wing.Someone said that they don't want
"western morality and standards". Perhaps they say that however, given the
choice between living there and here, just about every one of them would jump in
a leaky boat at the chance of joining us.What are western values and
standards, anyway ? Suicide bombers on school buses blowing up innocent Jews ?
Flying passenger planes into populated buildings ? Only having the choice of one
religion and one political party ? Are western standards and beliefs
below those in Muslim countries ? Are different religions and beliefs outlawed
in our country like they are in all Muslim countries ? Are our women subjugated
and banned from getting educations like they do in some Muslim countries
?For most in the west it is a great source of pride that our standards
are different. While those in the Muslim world didn't rise up to stop the
slaughter of brother Muslims in Kosova, the prevailing standards and beliefs in
the western world were decent enough for America and her allies to stop the
slaughter. And it was the Muslim world that sat back and watched Saddam
unleash chemical weapons (WMDs) on brother Muslims in Iran ? He gassed tens of
thousands of Kurds in his own country, slaughtered the Marsh Arabs, invaded
Kuwait, shot missiles into populated sections of Saudi Arabia and
