January 2002 - July 2006 - The Jerry Quarry Foundation

Quarry had used some basic power lifting exercises,there's no telling how strong
he could have become.People have a general misconception aboutlifting.Too bad
Quarry's not around today.I remember during the tv's greatest athletes,Quarry
pressed two hundred lbs.Joe Frazier missed ,I think,with 220lbs.It doesnt mean a
thing,except maybe Frasier had just the slightest strenth advantage over Jerry.|

hands of a master,will usually, but barely,achieve the advantage over a for real
power puncher,like T yson or Foreman.One of my sons went to full contact
karate.He didnt do well against fighters who could crowd and stay on top of
him.Thereby keeping him of balance,so he could not kick.Any professional boxer
is much more effective with his hands.|

agree that boxers, if they get in close and crowd are hard for a karate or kick
boxers to contend with but Ray Mercer went into kick boxing and he had trouble
with kickersI think no holds barred fighting, though kind of misnamed
because there are rules such as no punching or kicking in the groin and no eye
pokes, something karate students learn to be used in serious self defense
situtations, but the concept of those events is interesting. I think a
good striker can dominate if he can stay on his feet. On the ground though
wrestlers and Jiu Jitsu guys can be quite effective.I remember locally
here in California there was a cage fighting event where a local martial artist
was challenged by a street fighter, a real thug and even though this match
should have never taken place, it did happen and a riot broke out after the
street fighter kicked his opponent in the groin and when he was disqualified his
buddies started a brawl in the crowd.|

TO TELL US THIS.AND THIS WILL BE OUR 5TH FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS DIED IN THE LAST
4 YEARS, 3 ON THE QUARRY SIDE AND 2 ON MY MOTHER'S SIDE.IT'S JUST REALLY SAD

you didn't burst my bubble about Robert (Bob). He and I have talked a lot in
the past three years or so and I knew about his substance problems before but I
didn't know he had fallen back into that stuff again.I knew about the
situation with his kids but not about the details, which are none of my business
and I never asked him about why anyway.He was doing well for a while
working in the oil fields and I all know is he treated me well and I consider
him a friend and I would still like to find out where he is so I can write to
him.Hey, we all fall short sometimes, some more so than others but I
have messed up myself, maybe not to the point of going to jail, at least not for
more than one night, and I don't hold it against him if he screwed up
again.I am sorry also to hear that your grandfather Jack is not doing
well. When it rains, sometimes it pours.|
