eside Andre' the Tall or Warren Coolidge ! It depends on what you mean when
you say that he couldn't compete today. I think that Joe would have had
problems against the big and skilful fighters like Vitali Klitschko, Lennox
Lewis or Riddick Bowe. I don't know, maybe Joe would have lost against these
three guys in their primes. |
until Vitali Klitschko wins a major title, the WBC title this coming month would
be his first, and he defends this title at least five times, then we can say he
has acomplished something and he can be compared to the greats from the past,
not until then! For now, his biggest acomplishments have been in losses. He
was ahead on points against an over the hill Lennox Louis but he lost because of
a cut and he was ahead on points against Chris Byrd but he lost that one too
because of an arm injury. Sure he deserves another shot at the title but that
is all.Koo Koo, name a giant fighter who is fighting today who has
proven himself. The answer to that one is, none! In the entire history of the
heavyweight title, only two, Lewis and Riddick Bowe can even dare to claim
greatness (sorry Massimo, but even the Preem falls short!). In this so
called age of the giants, the IBF title is held by Byrd, 211 pounds, the WBA
title was recently vacated by Roy Jones Jr, 193 pounds (dripping wet!), and is
held by John Ruiz, 225 pounds and the not so prestigous WBO title is held by
Lamon Brewster, also 225 pounds. These fighters are not giants and they are not
much bigger than fighters from JQ's era and Frazier's and Jones is smaller than
both JQ and Joe F and he proved he is better than Ruiz. Not to mention, Vitali
K still has to prove himself against another 225 pounder in Corrie Sanders and
this result is still very much in doubt. Add one more to the mix, Joe
Mesi, 235 pounds had his toughest fights against Monte Barrett, 215 pounds and
Vassilily Jirov 211 pounds (I thought Jirov was too heavy, he should have come
in at 205). There I have presented many examples of why Joe Frazier
could compete today, that the giants of the game are not dominating. I doubt
any of the fighters I have listed could defeat Joe or JQ for that matter, at
their best. In fact, smaller fighters, in the range of 210 to 220 are holding
their own. OF COURSE KOO KOO NEVER GIVES FACTS AS TO WHY JOE COULDN'T COMPETE,
JUST HIS BIAS AGAINST JOE. The fact is if Jones, Jirov, Byrd, and Barrett can
compete well today, than Joe would do even better than them! |
UP STRONG IN THAT FIRST FIGHT, THEY COULD HAVE GIVE HIM THE FIGHT, NOBODY WOULD
HAVE COMPLAINED, KENT, IF YOU WANT TO BELIEVE THAT THE FIGHTERS OF THE PAST ARE
BETTER THAN TODAYS , I CAN'T HELP YOU, YOU USED ROY JONES AS AN EXAMPLE, IS HE
NOT A TODAY FIGHTER? YOUR RIGHT THE TALENT IS NOT WHAT IT SHOULD BE, BECAUSE
THESE GUYS ARE GOING TO THE NFL AND OTHER SPORTS, WHAT WE'RE STUCK WITH IS THE
3RD CLASS HEAVYWEIGHTS. KENT STOP INTERVIEWING LOW CLASS PEOPLE LIKE JAMES
TONEY, KENT , MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO HANGOUT WITH THOSE MORONS MASSIMO AND
ROADSCUM, I'M SURE THEY AGREE W/ EVERYTHING YOU SAY. CLOCKMAN RULES!!! :)))))|
use Roy Jones Jr. as an example of a smaller fighter with skill who can compete
with bigger fighters. The point is, most of the larger fighters don't have the
skill level to excel. So Joe Frazier, a small heavyweight by today's standards,
could be succesful today because he had a high skill level. You use
Oscar Bonevena, one of the most durable and toughest fighters of his era to
prove Joe had no punch. this doesn't prove Joe had no punch, it proves Oscar
was tough and could take a good punch.I am sure you would use George
Foreman, a bigger fighter than Joe, as an example of why Joe couldn't compete
with the bigger fighters of today because he knocked Joe out twice. Again, you
would be missing the point. The point being that Foreman had a high skill
level, higher than today's fighters. This high skill level was what was needed
to beat Frazier, not just size. That Foreman held the heavyweight title
as recently as ten years ago and he fought until 1997 with a record of 11-3, 8
