He was still wandering around thinking the war was still on despite the fact
that his side had been thoroughly beaten a lifetime before. And when you
debate topics around Frazier, you are like that knight from Monte Pythons
getting hacked to pieces on the bridge. After he lost both his arms, he warned
that he'd kick the guy to death. Off went his legs, and he'd bite you to death,
and on it went. That's what you guys remind me of. As each piece of your
argument is demolished under weight of facts, you move onto some other silly
fantasy. It's fun though as you're giving me a laugh.|
How dare you question Frazier's opponent selection. Let's see, he took on heavy
hitting KO artist Joe Bugner and the in-prime and dangerous Jimmy Ellis in 1975.
If only he had fought Horshack from "Welcome Back Kotter" that would have been
THREE very tough fights! For the big comeback, it was Jumbo Cummings---and if
he had waited a little longer, he could have taken on Screech from "Saved By The
Bell."|
really don't understand how the judges could score it a split decision. The
fight was pretty one-sided, I think Ali' only won round 11, while Norton won at
least round 2,4,5,9 and 12. Ali' fought one of the worst fights of his career
but, on the other hand, showed a lot of courage by fighting with a broken hand.
Norton won easily the first fight in my book. The second fight was a classic,
one of the best heavyweight fights of the 70's. It was very close and could go
either way. I think that probably Norton was ahead by 1 point at the end of the
fight, but many rounds were close and I can see how the judges could score it a
split decision win for Ali'. Norton threw the hardest shots and in the seventh
round Ali' was really in big trouble. I have rarely seen Ali' so close to being
knocked down. Norton was really a great fighter, had heart, could punch hard,
could jab, could boxe, was a great body puncher...If he had had Chuvalo's chin
he would have been the greatest heavyweight of all times.|
course, not with a broken hand.|
Norton had a lot of things broken when he stepped in with Foreman, Shavers and
Cooney. You're right---he showed heart against Ali and Holmes---but these guys
knocked out opponents with combinations, not sledgehammers like Shavers threw.
Before the Shavers-Norton fight, Shavers questioned Norton's heart when he gets
rocked by a hard punch. And you know what, when Shavers landed often and early,
Norton wanted no part of him. Against Foreman, it was a two round demolition.
Against Cooney, Norton looked like he had been hit by a train. Ironic---two
pals, Kenny and Joe, were courageous against strategic boxers, but questionable
against sluggers. Norton folded up against the big hitters, and after Foreman,
Frazier refused to fight them.|
boxing history would have taken Foreman's, Shavers' and Cooney's best shots. I
have seen Cooney's early demolition of Ron Lyle and it was really impressive, he
broke one of his ribs with one shot, a kind of what Joe Louis did to Massimo
Schmeling (bothering a little uncle Adolf...).|
while yes Norton was a more dangerous opponent than Stander and Shavers was a
more dangerous opponent than Daniels, why didn't you reverse that and say, who
was more deserving of a title shot in circa 1972, Ron Stander or Earnie Shavers?
I will answer that for you. It was Ron Stander who had a record of 22-1 going
into his fight with Frazier that included a knockout win over Earnie
Shavers!!You Frazier critics never answer the questions put to you such
as analyzing certain match ups. You just make a general assumpion that Frazier
avoided sluggers but I will try again and point out how a Frazier/Shavers match
might play out.Frazier would continuly crowd Shavers and never give him
