don't know someone smokes, that thinner people are in better shape than heavier
people, if they look like they are even if they are smoking like a
smokestack.Luckily, I have never smoked in my life and Noam my guess is
you don't smoke either or you smoke very little. I would be surprised that you
could swim as much as you do if you were a smoker.|
thanks for showing me the picture of Bobby Quarry on E bay.Maybe I
should buy it. Maybe I should buy it and give it to Bob if I ever see him
again.Hey Bob Q, where are you? I don't have your number anymore and I
have moved.Funny, I once asked Bob Quarry what kind of diet did he have
when he was fighting and he told me, "I never worried about having to lose
weight as I was a heavyweight and I didn't have to make a weight
limit."Bob is lucky though that even into his forties, he doesn't
have to diet and he still doesn't weigh more than 220 pounds at about 6'1", at
least the last time I saw him, about ten months ago.|
soccer is corrupt, at least in Italia, certain teams (especially Juventus) are
always treated much better by referees than other teams. There is huge money
involved. Regarding boxing I'm optimistic about the honesty of the fighters.
Maybe I'm ingenous, but I don't think there are fighters payed to lose (or
fighters get payed to lose). Sometimes I see farces (Tyson-Etienne, Tyson-
Savarese), but I don't think this has to do with the regularity of the fights,
but with the heart of some fighters. On the other hand, I have often doubts
about the honesty of some judges. For instance, whoever saw the Ali'-Bonavena
fight knows that it was close. Well, two judges had Ali' ahead 12-2 and 10-3-1
at the time of the stoppage !!!!!!! How is that possible ? The other judge had
it 8-5-1 for Ali' and this is still hardly acceptable in my book, but at least I
can give this judge the benefit of the doubt! |
heard a former pro football player say that some players "look like Tarzan, but
play like Jane" meaning that they might look fit and muscular, but get them on
the field and they have no technique and might not be in the great physical
shape they appear to be. I'll add, when William "Regrigerator" Perry played
with the Eagles, his weight was between 350-400 and he looked out of shape
badly. Yet I watched him go through drills that were so physically demanding,
it was ridiculous. On an 85 degree day, he ran up and down stairs for a period
of time that most of us couldn't come close to. |
heavier people in general take more flak than thinner people, even those that
smoke a lot.I have had more than one person, who smokes every other
minute, say to me things like, "hey, when are you going to run that guy off?"
They really think they are in better shape but I doubt they could even last
twenty or thirty minutes, without stopping, in a swimming pool like I
can.But smokers are not in better health. Consider that in a recent
study it found that five percent of people eighty years old and above are
smokers as compared to about seventeen percent of the general population are
smokers.Did most of the older people quit smoking, yes, the hard way!
They died! The point is, most smokers do not live as long as non smokers, in
general. But while I have not seen a study to back of my view, I have
noticed that most very elderly people are thin. I don't notice a lot of heavier
elderly people. My conclusion is heavy people don't live past eighty
years old either, in general. But it is clear, to me anyway, that smokers
are in the same boat as heavy people and they are not in better health, even if
they look like they are.The damage someone who eats too much is apparent
while the damage a smoker does is not as easily seen.|
that smokers who quit end up gaining weight---maybe the cigarettes are a habit
