to Mike Quarry and I told him his fans have been praying for his recovery from
cancer and that his fans have not forgotten him. He was very happy to hear
this. Hang in there champ (and yes he has earned that title regardless if he
won it in the ring)we are in your corner always. Steve, yes those characters
were quite a hoot! It was even worse over at the old Joe Frazier's gym site.
In some way, I kind of miss some of my old friends who were always sending snide
comments my way. Oh by the way, I ran accross our old pal Brother DKS a few
months ago on another site and he seemed very concerned that I had found him.
He said something like, "oh no, you found me! Can't I get any peace?!" He also
asked me not to tell any of the Quarry people where he was hanging out on the
internet. As if they would follow me just to bug him! Of course I didn't let
on I had found him to anyone and I still haven't said where he posts at. |
just found out a few weeks back that we'd lost James Quarry. It was
particularly sad news, as I'd spoken to him on occasion over the phone and
written him, but never met him face to face. I was looking forward to that
possibility, but it wasn't meant to be. Just weeks before this tragic news,
I'd written this poem, "The Voice". Since his beloved brother Jerry was a poet,
perhaps it belongs here as a tribute to James. As I recall, his voice was
deep and gravelly, unique and truly impressive. We may never hear it again this
lifetime except on tape, but along with Jerry's, it will continue to be
wonderfully audible just the same - as he guides us all as forcefully as ever -
as to where to take this gift of their Foundation for the greatest possible good
."Aren't renewed friendships just THE BEST ??!! They come complete with
melodies - like those favourite tunes that resonate in your memory long after
the evening has passed. They always come back to comfort - and to bring THE
FEELING back alive. And if they have words - the "JUST RIGHT" words - the ones
that touch you more deeply than you ever dared dream of being touched - well,
they're all the better still, no? On the other hand, if the tune happens to be
from Beethoven, no words could possibly enhance."THE
VOICEMaggie Kyler-RoseA VOICE from Times Long Gone alightsOf
late, as if to say:"Replenish Wells of Hope and Love;Embrace a Glorious
Day."The VOICE with Force and TendernessAnd Passions
overflowedSpawns Face of Sweet RemembranceOnce lost along Life's
Road. The HEART responds in answerTo Joy that this Sound brings,A
sentiment more preciousThan castles are to Kings. The SCORE has
penetrated allThe SENSES - none are spared -In brave attempt to make
amends For Bonds that weren't shared:A Symphony interpretedSo
powerfully, it seems,That soon its Echoes resonateAs Thunder does - in
Dreams.More, still, than this, acknowledgedIn the Comfort of the
VOICEIs the Kinship that lay dormantUntil there was A
CHOICE.Desires flare to give the VOICEA TEXTURE, TASTE, and
SMELLAnd to feast a pair of famished EyesOn Those once known so
well.Yet, how does one become so boldAs to speak the VOICE's
NameAnd give it Arms and Lips and ThingsTo which LONGING might lay
claim?Perhaps it's wisest after allTo endure the Status Quo
...What if THE WHOLE becomes so Dear,One cannot AGAIN let go?So,
to a wiser Universe From whence this Gift has come, I proffer it with
GratitudeAnd a Prayer ITS WILL be done.|
what ever became of Joe "King" Roman the former heavyweight who fought Foreman?
Hope he is OK. I think he used to live in Florida. I know that Jose Urtain the
Spanish heavyweight killed himself some years back.|
