was notorious about not taking a punch very well so that is why I think he would<br />

be knocked out by Lewis. If it was <strong>Jerry</strong> verses Lewis on the other hand, even<br />

though he was a lot smaller than Lewis, he would be more of a match for Lewis<br />

than Patterson if only because <strong>Jerry</strong> could take a terrific punch. I would say<br />

the same thing about Rocky Marciano verse Lewis as well. I will have to think<br />

about the current matches and post about them tommorow or Sunday. |<br />

<strong>Quarry</strong> stops Young by TKO in the 6th. <strong>The</strong> first 3 rounds saw <strong>Jerry</strong> pressing the<br />

action to the body, Young using his jab to fend him off. Young is very hard to<br />

hit with a clean shot. In the fourth <strong>Jerry</strong> lands some hard body shots, a stiff<br />

right sends Jimmy reeling. <strong>The</strong> fifth round Young is holding, and ducks through<br />

the ropes when <strong>Jerry</strong> puts more than three punches together. <strong>The</strong> ref takes the<br />

round away from Young for this tactic. In the 6th, <strong>Jerry</strong> staggers Young with a<br />

left and right on a break, Young retreats to the ropes. <strong>Jerry</strong> trys to put Young<br />

away and drops him with a right. Young gets up at 7 and ducks through the ropes<br />

again. <strong>The</strong> ref stops it at 2:06. Young protests and says he is not hurt and<br />

later says he was robbed. Williams stops La Starza in the 5th round. Williams<br />

towers over the 5'11" LaStarza and uses his long left to set up right hands.<br />

Both fighters head hunt for the firts two rounds and Carl gets the better of it.<br />

In the third Roland shifts to a body attack and gets in some good shots though<br />

Williams seems to take it well. In the fith round Williams hurts LaStarza and<br />

opens a cut over his right eye. By the end of the round Williams is giving<br />

LaStarza a thumping. Williams opens the 5th with a hard combination that sends<br />

Roland reeling. A left hook drops him to one knee. Up at a count of 8 Williams<br />

hammers him along the ropes and drops him again as the ref steps in. TKO 1:43.<br />

it be like the Ellis and Machen fights for <strong>Jerry</strong> or like the Spencer and<br />

Patterson fights. I know I'm not going to win any popularity awards but I must<br />

pick Young - in his prime he gave Foreman, Ali and Norton fits and you could<br />

argue he won the last two (many do). If Ali and Norton couuld'nt outbox him and<br />

Foreman or Lyle could'nt knock him out I feel that <strong>Quarry</strong> could'nt do it either.<br />

Young on points. La Starza was a cagey boxer with a good chin, I believe he was<br />

stopped only twice (by Marciano and Julio Mederos). <strong>The</strong> size would be a big<br />

factor and believe Williams after a few scary moments takes a good decision.I do<br />

feel Williams would win a decision if the two were the same size however.|<br />

by late kayo over Young and Carl Williams over La Starza by decision. Gil<br />

Clancy once said that <strong>Jerry</strong> was the best gym fighter he ever saw and that he<br />

used contenders like Young as sparring partners and he controlled the action.<br />

Interesting point about the Young verses Lyle fights, Lyle has always believed<br />

that he won both fights. As I remember them or at least one of them, Lyle<br />

landed the more telling blows and he kept up a steady body attack, but Young<br />

landed more punches and the fights were close. |<br />

to be back after long abscence. Had to get some business done across the US.<br />

Especially Georgia. Recently returned from Santa Ana, Calif. I'm very glad to<br />

see this site still going strong. Also glad that certain "characters" are no<br />

longer here. Very ineteresting match-ups. <strong>Jerry</strong> vs Jimmy is very tough. I pick<br />

<strong>Quarry</strong> by ko 6. This is <strong>Quarry</strong> prior to the 2nd loss to Frazier. If it was post<br />

Frazier I would pick Young. I don't think using Ali is a good measuring<br />

stick. Many could argue that Ali was finished after the Manila fight with<br />

Frazier. He was clearly out of shape in that fight. He looked fat to me. Clearly<br />

a lack of motivation on Ali's part. Also Young didn't go after Ali like my<br />

Norton did. Norton was far more robbed than the elusive Young. Norton beat Ali<br />

twice (official and unofficial)while Ali was in his prime. Of course Ali was<br />

washed up when Norton beat him the 3rd time. I'm no hypocrite. As for "<strong>The</strong>
